Harry Potter relationships

I thought Ron and Hermione worked well. It certainly had rough patches but they complemented each other well. That being said, I do think it would have made sense to kill off Ron, so, in that sense, it was her clinging to her ending regardless of story.

I don't see it at all.

Harry and Hermoine never showed the slightest physical or romantic interest in each other. They were totally siblings.

Whereas Ron and Hermoine had that constant hair-pulling love/hate sexual attraction going on.

That said, Harry's attraction to Ginny was completely out of left field in the sixth book and totally threw me for a loop. I thought he was going to end up with Luna, they seemed to be setting it up throughout the fifth book.

I haven't read the books. I've only seen the movies. But from the movies, I definitely wanted Harry & Hermione to hook up in The Deathly Hallows, Part 1. Radcliffe & Watson just had so much more chemistry together than Grint & Watson.

I didn't care for Harry/Ginny at all but that's because I don't think that the actress playing Ginny was quite of the same caliber as some of the other actors in the series.

Harry/Luna would have been nuts but I'm just curious enough to want to see what would have happened there.

^^ I reckon you couldnt kill one of the Trio until the final book or at the very earliest the end of the penultimate book.

Unless you were out to mark the one you killed as the third of the three and kill them off book 4/5.

One of the things I found interesting about the series was how relatively death-free the first 3 movies were. Did anyone die besides Professor Quirrell?

But then, from the 4th movie onward, each film seems to climax with a death. Cedric Diggory, Sirius Black, Professor Dumbledore, Dobby, then a shitload of people at the very end.

Agreed on Hermione and Ron, they totally reminded me of Mr and Mrs Weasley, totally felt natural, and Ron's and Hermione's Teenage Jealousies played out realistically for me as well, and yea, Harry and Hermione did indeed feel too brother/sister to me. It is true, though, that Movie Harry and Hermione did have the kind of chemistry onscreen to feel right together, but, for me, not book Harry and Hermione.

Harry/Ginny, didn't really feel out of place to me, as much as it did for many, it just seemed like Harry not noticing her because she was Ron's sister and always had the hots for him, and it was only after she stopped panting after him that he woke and realized he liked her.

Neville/Ginny could've been fun too, I was always pretty open to that.

Pretty much my thoughts apart from Luna.

It would have been way too obvious and generic to put the main hero and the only female lead together. Ron as the sidekick was a better choice because he had more chemistry with Hermione and he was a good guy too.

Everyone who was actively creating something knows the feeling down the line, sometimes years later when having more experience and/or skill, to return to an otherwise finished project and redo some parts.

Harry Potter is fine as it is and i as a reader have no regrets or feel the need for some things to be changed but i understand Rowling. However changing it now is too late so better arrange oneself with reality.

Well, that was deliberate. As Harry matured, so did the books. The turning point was at the end of The Goblet of Fire where an innocent character dies, Voldemort returns, and Harry loses his magical protection.

Rowling says that she should have put Hermione and Harry together in the Harry Potter series instead of Hermione and Ron, according to the publication’s headline, which reads, “JK admits Hermione should have wed Harry.”

TOUJOURS

Watson didn’t seem shocked by these comments and agreed with her. “I think there are fans out there who know that too and who wonder whether Ron would have really been able to make her happy.”

Poor Grint... Except he's rich, so never mind. :p

Pairing the female lead with the other trio member is no less obvious and generic. Pairing Hermy with Neville, Luna, or no one (before the flash-forward, at least) - now that would have been gutsy. ;)

Moi, I came up with the ideal ending years ago:

I see it now - Ron dies in the Dept. of Mysteries battle - very tragic - Neville replaces him in Year 6, albeit with an organically awkward transition - it's his feelings for Hermione that cause Harry and her to realize that they're perfect for each other - and Neville winds up with Ginny, having found a secondary family at last. :p

Naaaaaaaaaaaailed iiiiiiiittttt! :rommie:

I think Rowling would have been better off not saying anything. You either piss off fans who liked Ron/Hermione and were happy that they ended up together or piss off fans who liked Harry/Hermione and wanted to see them together. You can second guess yourself after the fact until you're blue in the face.

I admit, I looked at more of Harry/Hermione in the first books. But when I realized it would be Ron/Hermione, I was fine with it and looked forward to them being together. I wish we could have seen them as an actual couple.

Radcliffe and Watson did have some seriously good chemistry in the films.

You know, I wouldn't have minded Harry/Luna.

Vindication!! Haha! She called us 'delusional' back and in the day and now she turns that around.

I never bought into that whole opposites attract or that Hermione and Ron are like Mr and Mrs. Weasley tripe. It was more than just being opposites it was like Ron had NO respect for anything that was really meaningful to Hermione (i.e. certain muggle customs, schoolwork, etc) and she had none for his passions either. I don't see how they could have worked out without serious therapy of some sort. Hermione deserved better than the guy that slagged on her intelligence and personality for nearly seven years. I never really thought Ron was a very good friend to either Harry or Hermione in the end. Neville would have been a much better third to the trio without bringing all the inferiority baggage.

Now it's not so much that I think Harry had to necessarily end up with Hermione, rather anyone BUT Ginny in my mind. That's just so sick that he married a girl who was basically groomed to be his bride from birth. That he was attracted to her through some subconcious oedipal complex makes it worst. Seriously...Harry hated those people who loved him for his name and fame, and that's what she was! I don't buy that she ever really grew out of it.

Actually I do kind of like the idea of Harry with Luna in a way, at least she's honest in liking him as Harry and not the Boy-Who-Lived. Neville might have been a nice compliment to Hermione as well. He always respected her intelligence and treated her well.

Anyway, I LOVE this news.

I actually wasn't a "shipper" when reading the books. I feel that not every plot or story you want to tell must necessarily find a romantic relationship for every one of your characters (Robert Jordan probably being the worst offender).

That said... I was actually fine with Ginny once I got used to the idea. She was pretty much an empty shell of a character during the first books but later on I thought Rowling actually developed her quite well as an independent, strong, intelligent girl. She certainly wasn't the silly little girl admiring Harry anymore. She seemed strong enough (as a character) to be his equal which explains why I was sad that her role in the last book wasn't bigger. I understand that Rowling wanted to focus on the three friends but excluding Ginny at that point felt artificial to me.

Now Ron and Hermione... to me as a girl that never made sense. "Opposites attract" is a cliche and I just don't see a smart, independent girl like Hermione fall for Ron. Now I do like him well enough, I'm not saying they couldn't be friends. But a relationship? I don't see how that could be fulfilling for her.

ETA: Oh, about Harry & Luna. I hadn't considered that but I like the idea!

She what?! :p

Uh... I've got dozens of complaints with the series, but this is absurd. Being aware of a famous person isn't being "groomed" to marry said person, and since Harry always wanted a family more than anything, officially joining the Weasley clan makes perfect sense for him. I'd have preferred him and Hermy, but am not at all bothered by that pairing.

While it was true in the early books that Ginny was star-struck with him, in Book 5 she moved on and was dating other people and was very self-confident.

Harry/Luna seemed more likely in the books as time went on, moreso in the films. Ginny's silly crush always seemed to be something that would fade with time, and she did start dating others, then suddenly they're together? never made sense to me.

But Ron/Hermione was painfully obvious from the start, becoming more of a "get on with it already" stunted plot point until the final two books.

Yeah, those are pretty much my exact thoughts. My biggest disappointment is she got virtually no attention at all in the final book. I get that she isn't one of the three, but she was a close fourth.

Yeah, it felt like Rowling spent more time telling us about Harry and Ginny's relationship than showing us. But then again I think it would have caused Rowling INTENSE physical pain if she had actually written Harry being happy for more than one consecutive page. She loved to revel in the misery.

Ginny was underutilized in the final book.
