Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Q (Movies)

Has there been any announcement about where the first part of TDH will end and where part 2 will begin? If not, does anybody have any guesses or thoughts about where they decided to cut things off for the first half? A good cliffhanger point for me would be HHR getting captured by the Death Eaters and being taken to Malfoy Manor and then Part 2 beginning with their their subsequent escape.

It ends a scene or two after the overall story turns from 90% suck to 85% suck.

The exact answer is on Wikipedia.

Thanks! It seems that I was pretty much on the mark (though slightly too early. That's a lot to cram into the first part but I definitely agree that a one-part movie could do the book any sort of justice without MAJOR edits.

I enjoy the first four books, and the third and fourth movies a great deal. I'd have to revisit the first two films to firm up my opinion on those. So, not a fan of the totality, no, but a selective admirer.

I don't know about anyone else, but for me, the movie will end in an AMC theater in Queens. Part 2 is likely to start in roughly the same place.

I just hope they didn't feel the need to make both part one and part two more than 2 hours long.

I'm of the opinion that the last book does not need two movies and could've easily been done in one movie so making each one 2.5 hours or more will be a pain.

Okay I just read the entire Wikipedia article and I am not finding the answer. Can someone help me out here? The plot description is entirely vague and doesn't say whent the first part ends.

I am wondering because I am reading the books with someone right now and we won't have time to finish the entire last book before we go see the movie, so I want to read just up to the part that the first movie ends.

They severely edited the summary that was there before.

The first film ends with Lord Voldemort retrieving the Elder Wand from Dumbledore's tomb (Chapter 24 - The Wandmaker, in the book).

As already mentioned, Part 1 will end with events which occur in Chapter 24 of the book, specifically Lord Voldemort successfully acquiring the Elder Wand from Albus Dumbledore's tomb.

Thank you so much! I hope they change that Wikipedia article back to something useful, the description there now is just awful.

According to a newly posted review of DP P1 by MSN, the film clocks in at 146 minutes, and moves at a rather fast pace.

I agree. It's a little silly. I mean we learned already from the last 6 movies that they don't need to indulge this much.
I read the books, and still don't have that fan's feeling that every book that they like must be a 10 hour miniseries in order for justice to be done to it.

2 1/2 hours seems just fine for the first part of a big, sprawling (hopefully) epic of a film. I haven't even bothered to see Half Blood Prince because they cut so much from Order of the Phoenix (although it was well done), so I look forward to this thing having more space.

Well, I guess it's subjective, but I don't think when all is said and done that we need 5 hours (if part 2 is as long) to tell the story of a boy fighting a bad wizard.
I don't mean to belittle it as I've read all the books too, but I really think that you can adequately tell the story in 2 hours...maybe 2 hours and 15.
