News Harberts: The Klingons Are Americans

America is rather divided right now, so I'd say the Klingons are the red states and the Federation are the blue states.

I'm not sure that's what Harberts meant. I get the impression from what I've read that the story involves a House leader trying to unify a divided Klingon Empire. So maybe the idea is that the Klingons are analogous to Americans as a whole, a society split by internal divisions and mistrust and trying to find a way to work together again.

That would be a nice, optimistic way to go about it, but more on the nose than I prefer.

True, but I am hoping for less on the nose and more good storytelling.

I don't need an overdramatic reading of the Constitution in this series :D

I think you're jumping to some pretty massive conclusions here. Just because a Trek series has elements that resonate with current issues, that doesn't make it "The Omega Glory." Star Trek has always resonated with current issues. That's integral to its DNA. But it's allegory. By definition, it isn't a literal, one-to-one copy of real events. This will be a story about the Klingons. They will presumably be portrayed in a way that makes sense for Klingons, but aspects of their situation will be reminiscent of themes and issues that are relatable to the audience. Just like ST usually does things. Really, has ST been off the air so long that we've forgotten how this works?

It's a joke...I do that. I made a tongue and cheek reference to "The Omega Glory" because I thought it was funny.

I know how this works, because I watch Star Wars.

What is the Klingon for Eed plebnista?
Please, please, PLEASE let there be a Klingon leader in this show named T'rUM'pH.

^Surely a Ferengi would be more suitable than a Klingon...

Star Trek must be solemn and serious like Eucharist or an evening at the opera.
Fun and humor would be undignified and contrary to Gene's Vision (tm).

The kilngons now represent college students who paid a lot of money for a humanity degree.

Because super on-the-nose allegory is a sign of cleverness now.

Now that more Discovery details are out, what American factions eat human corpses, including corpses of other Americans?

It would be cool if, for once, Star Trek created an alien race that was...you know...alien. Not some asinine attempt to "represent culture xyz."
