Happy Independence Day!

My neighbors across the street have been shooting off cheap fireworks for the last 6 hours. I'm over it.

Happy Independence Day to my fellow Americans, and a warm thank you to France (& Haiti), Spain, the Netherlands, and the Native American tribes and nations who helped make it possible.

Thank you as well to Great Britain, Canada, Germany and others for being great allies and friends in the years since the Revolution and for helping to preserve that independence and our democracy on many occasions.

OOooooooo. Ahhhhhhhhh.

Yeah, seriously, it just isn't accurate to say that all or most Americans think that way. I certainly don't think we're any better than people in other countries, we're all human. I can't say I hang around too many people who actually buy the "America is the greatest country ever!" bullshit.
I agree with everything except the last part. Don't confuse people with process. Sure, we're all human and of equal worth. What makes America great is our form of government, the Democratic Republic, and those who have protected it.

For those of you who don't visit TNZ, in honour of this day I thought I'd repost this fascinating documentary on your first president, a truly remarkable man:

I'm disappointed in the lack of a Twilight Zone marathon this year. It used to be a tradition.
I dunno, I think SyFy's "The Greatest American Hero" marathon is quite, um, appropriate! Used to love that show back in the day!

This is the absolute worst night in the world to try and go to bed early. Make the fireworks stop!

bloody fireworks. Wish I didn't hafta get up at 5:30 AM. :(
Five-fucking-thirty in the morning? Do you work on a fishing boat?

No, supermarket. My schedule is all over the place though since I do pretty much anything and everything in the store (*except* the meat department).

I actually don't mind early shifts; at least I get off work fairly early so I can watch baseball in the evening. :)

Would help if I wasn't such a light sleeper. :brickwall:

Thanks. It seems to be rather low key this year in my area. Usually there are more events going on, everyone has somewhere to go and something to do, but this year I am just laying at home reading the TrekBBS. The rest of my family isn't doing anything either. I don't even know where there would be to go if I wanted to see fireworks. And I haven't seen many ads or commercials related to the holiday either. At least I get tomorrow off work.

It really did feel low key this year. I ended up going to a local firework show (Only one in the area other than San Francisco or San Jose) with a friend and that was fun. It sucks it might have been their last one because of budget reasons. Just seeing everyone out there celebrating something everyone has in common was just nice and filling a sense of community. Something that is needed more of IMO. I had a good time, and I parked away so unlike last year it was easy to get out of there.

Hope everyone had a good 4th.

Congratz guys. Happy birthday America!
