Happy Independence Day!

I just realized the day, so I'm sending a quick greeting to all the American members. :) I may not number among you, but who cares about that? Here's to you today :techman:

Thanks. It seems to be rather low key this year in my area. Usually there are more events going on, everyone has somewhere to go and something to do, but this year I am just laying at home reading the TrekBBS. The rest of my family isn't doing anything either. I don't even know where there would be to go if I wanted to see fireworks. And I haven't seen many ads or commercials related to the holiday either. At least I get tomorrow off work.

Thanks, DN. It is indeed Independence Day. Happy Birthday, America.

Today is a good day to reflect on the incredible luck this country had in its creation. Never before, or since, in History has there been such an incredible group of men as the Founding Fathers. We should all strive to contribute to the evolution of the US toward the full realization of its founding principles-- for there are still many who live here who would drag us back.

There have been fireworks down at the beach for the past two nights, and tonight should be the big show down at the park-- unless there have been more budget cuts.

Yesterday, History Channel ran their Revolution series, which is one of my all-time favorites, and today they are showing America: The Story Of Us, which is also good, though I've only seen the first two episodes so far.

I've been to a fairly large number of nations in my short life and America truly is the best of all. Some might point to this or that problem, but this country, government and people are unique and superior. The vast long list of pluses by far excedes the very short list of minuses.

John Stossel just did a great show yesterday on America on Fox.

Happy Birthday America.

You may want to rephrase the bolded part. :vulcan:

Happy July the 4th.

She's American, iguana. Get used to it. They're like that. now lets hope that i can stand the superiority complex for six months when i'm overseas
nothing personal T'Girl. i'm talking more generally. i know plenty americans so i know the stereotype is accurate.

Happy Independence Day to my fellow Americans, and a warm thank you to France (& Haiti), Spain, the Netherlands, and the Native American tribes and nations who helped make it possible.

Thank you as well to Great Britain, Canada, Germany and others for being great allies and friends in the years since the Revolution and for helping to preserve that independence and our democracy on many occasions.

Regardless of what she said, this is completely out of line and every bit as wrong as her comment (as well as more directly an insult). Don't do it again.

Sorry, ares93: while I appreciate your support for my statement, I disagree with your assessment. I know plenty of Americans, too: many are like that, many are not. You cannot paint them with one broad brush. They may have a peculiar kind of national pride, but that's not really different from any other country in the world. Personally, I would have objected to anyone claiming superiority of their own nation, race or culture, be them Americans, Europeans, or Antarcticans.

Judge us not equally.

Yeah, seriously, it just isn't accurate to say that all or most Americans think that way. I certainly don't think we're any better than people in other countries, we're all human. I can't say I hang around too many people who actually buy the "America is the greatest country ever!" bullshit.
