Hangover Remedies, stat!

Colonel Green

I used to be a fairly heavy drinker, but these days I limit myself to special occasions. Yesterday an old friend of mine arrived in town on a business trip and we hit the pub to catch up on old times and I seem to have over-imbibed a wee bit.

I don't have a headache, but I don't recall EVER experiencing nausea this bad in my life, although I haven't actually thrown up. :(

Does anybody have a reliable hangover remedy they'd like to share? HELP ME!!

Against headache a pill of very light painkiller (aspirin or similar) usually does it for me. Against hangover nausea, unfortunately, the only remedy for me is, to throw up, even deliberately if I have to. And then carefully get some (non-alcoholic ;)) fluids back into my body.

Hmm. I was afraid that was going to be the consensus.

The thing is, I had my last drink about 12 or 14 hours ago. Do you really think that there could still be anything in there? I've been trying to drink water, but it's tough.

I tend to just wait it out, eat small amounts of food, focus on some work or so. I've never felt things were worth making myself vomit.

You'd be surprised what's still in there. I've vomited before almost a full 24 hours after drinking.

I actually find that drinking water makes me more nauseous when I'm hungover like that, which is good because it helps me want to vomit more.

I've been told a bottle of Irn Bru™ and a fish supper helps with a hangover. Or so I'm told. On the other hand, keeping your hydration levels up will help things.

Not that I've ever had a hangover, of course. Or indeed ever remembered having one... ;)

Anyway, Wikipedia has a section on hangovers and remedies too, which is fascinating reading....

Hmmm... rosiglitazone? :bolian:

I've always been one for a big dose of Vitamin B complex before the drinking begins...

Yeah, there are things you can do to prevent a hangover (or prevent a bad one, anyway), but once you have it you usually just have to deal with it.

It's ages since I had a serious hangover. However my hangover cures consisted of: a bag of sugary sweets (preferably Jelly Babies); a load of fresh orange juice and a good fry up. Also a packet of Marlboro. As I said, it's many years since I had a hangover and many years since I smoked.

As for throwing up, for me that only helped durimg the actual inebriation. The morning after was many hours too late.

I generally avoid hangovers by sticking to the same type of drink all night (a bourbon and dry/coke thank you very much) and making sure i eat either before drinking or before i become tipsy and word-slurry.

In the morning if i DO feel crap i tend to gravitate towards lots of water and greasy food. Also is i am able i take a nap in the afternoon and that usally puts the finishing touch on my getting over the hangover.

I've managed to throw up, but there wasn't much in there and I still feel like death. I'm starting to develop a headache now. I will now give Holdfast's suggestion a whirl. :shifty:

Good man. :D

The key is that hair of the dog takes away the worst of the nausea and the headache as well as any other physical symptoms, esp. if you're a borderline alky and get mild withdrawal symptoms the morning after. But you then have to rapidly use the window of opportunity created to rehydrate with water, kill the pain with paracetamol, get some food in you, etc, etc. The hair of the dog just buys you a little bit of time of symptom relief for you to restore your body's equilibrium properly before the hangover returns with a vengeance.

Of course, you can always take the Garak option, and just stay permanently heavily drunk instead. It works too. :D
