Hand-over from past incarnation

Greenwood or Tahir would be fine with me, but some might whine about the Kelvin connection.

[Worf] :klingon: Might? [/Worf]

Of T'Pol being on Discovery, I don't see why general audiences would need to be told her connection to Enterprise. Just have her there doing whatever she is there to do and move on.

To anyone that knows her, great - *wink wink* - call back achieved. To anyone that doesn't know her it won't matter. This would be their introduction to her. If they ever someday see her in Enterprise, great - *wink wink* - call back achieved and if they never do, so what.

I'm sure Whoopi would be open to returning as Guinan, but I doubt it will actually happen. She worked as a TNG character because of her chemistry with Picard. It's unlikely Guinan would return for DSC unless there was a good reason.

(IIRC, there was going to be an ENT episode with Guinan, now a United Earth government official, but I think the cancellation of the series is what killed it.)

Well... I'm sure nobody would notice. Fans are very forgiving about these little discrepancies, right?? :shifty:

So, yeah, given the above, I for one won't mind if they ditch the cameo handoff trope of Berman era Star Trek. YMMV.

That's kinda my attitude. That "tradition" belonged to a previous era of Trek shows made by a different creative team. No real reason DISCOVERY should feel obliged to continue it (and it's not as though an ENTERPRISE cameo is going to boost viewership), . . . but it's not something I'm going to lose sleep over either way.

Well, sure, DSC doesn't have to continue the tradition, but it wouldn't exactly hurt if they did. I don't see the harm in continuing it, anyway.

They should cram in as many cameos from past characters as possible, just for the sake of it. New viewers would think "Oh, that's just some elderly admiral," while we recognize him as Malcom Reed.

True, but I'm not sure I really see a benefit either.

And I'm kinda generally leery of the idea that DISCOVERY should do anything just because that's what the old shows did.

That was then and this is now and all that.

Cameos are fine if they make sense (Reunification) but other than that why bother? If they do it as an anthology type series with new characters every season (like True Detective or American Horror Story) I'd be down for a new season of TNG or something. At least a short arc involving those characters if it's done right.
