Han Solo is a d**k

EJA

Fleet Captain
Honestly, he spends more time mourning Chewbacca's death than the deaths of his own children. What kind of father is that?!

Eh, is that any worse than how Luke was more sad over Kenobi than his aunt and uncle?

Han Solo has always been a dick...why is this a sudden surprise? As for mourning Chewbacca he was his best friend and they did have an incredible bond over a couple of decades and were involved in some incredibly intense adventures. I actually didn't mind Han's reaction, was he overreacting sure? That sometimes happens though when you're not sure how to deal with the sudden death of your closest friend...not to mention that Chewie sacrificed himself to save Anakin and Han wasn't on good terms with Anakin at the time IIRC which further alienated him from his family. I'm not justifying how he was written....I'm just saying that it shouldn't be a shock that he WAS written this way. Han is a dick. Most of the characters in the Star Wars universe it could be argued have fundamental flaws in their characteristics and make up.

@NX I think that was probably the genesis of what Lucas intended. Wasn't Chewie named after a family pet in the first place?

I always took their relationship more as a boy and his dog.

Reminds me of the the theory that Chewie wasn't actually much more intelligent than a dog, and Han was deeply disturbed mentally and was hallucinating that his grunts and growls actually meant something. The rest of the characters just humored his illness.

Yet another reason to bring down the curtain on the characters with "The Last Command".

Chalk it up to the writers. But to be honest, the death of Chewbacca had a ripple throughout the mainstream that the deaths of Anakin and Jacen did not and perhaps the writers wanted to honor Chewbacca's passing appropriately since they would get pinged for not doing that if Han didn't mourn appropriately.

I do think though that both Han and Leia were a bit callous in their willingness to see Jacen executed and being pretty cool with Jaina being the executioner. I think the writers dropped the ball big time with the support both parents gave to the action. Vader had committed far worse crimes than Jacen but Luke risked everything to redeem him. I just wish that Han, Leia, Jaina, Luke, or Tenel Ka had been willing to do the same with Jacen, but they just wrote him off. BTW, I thought their reaction to Anakin's death was handled more appropriately.

Han had no kids in the movies and Chewie didn't die. The books don't count (I tried reading one - ugh). If he's a dick, he must be a dick in the movies!

Because after seeing ten books of angsty mourning Han we were all sick of it. Did you really want to see him being an insufferable bore for ANOTHER ten novels just because one of his kids died? In world explanation: the death of Chewie taught him to deal with death so he was better prepared to cope with the next one or two.

Ummm... you know that Chewie was shown fixing the Millennium Falcon and Threepio several times in ESB right? He is certainly very intelligent.

He put Threepio's head on backwards. And he kept screwing up the repairs. Remember? "This one goes here, that one goes there!"

:p
