Halo REACH trailer....

Looks way better than ODST. A squad-based game could make for some seriously fun multiplayer. I'm looking forward to this.

It works as a teaser, but doesn't show an iota of gameplay footage. So other than telling me it comes out next fall it does nothing except show me some pretty pictures.

Yeah, I dunno. I feel like this trailer cements the transition from Bungie to Infinity Ward as the "big dog of FPSes" in the console space. Hopefully after this "contract" game they can go ahead and do something new.

It isn't really like Infinity Ward has been doing anything "new" these past few years. Most Call of Duty games are pretty much the same. Which isn't to say they aren't amazing experiences, but I wouldn't say that they're "new". And I'd say Infinity Ward has been the FPS developer for a number of years now. Bungie is big because Microsoft helped push Halo. Infinity Ward is big because they develop great games without help from anyone.

It looks like Bungie is taking Halo in a new direction with this game. Which is a good sign. The old formula was getting a little tired.

Isn't it just a contract obligation though? Microsoft is taking Halo away from Bungie after REACH.

Yes, Microsoft is pulling the Halo IP from Bungie after Reach.

My point was more that Bungie is not, and really hasn't been the premier FPS developer for a number of years now. After Halo: Combat Evolved came out they may have been, but the title started to be usurped by Infinity Ward around when Call of Duty 2 came out, and was definitely usurped when Modern Warfare was released.

I got your point, and I agree. To be honest, I never thought Halo was that stellar of a FPS. I think it owes it's success to how it made a controller viable for FPS games.

I agree that IW does the genre better.

I don't think I've ever seen a series more obsessed with it's own backstory than Halo.

The multiplayer should be fun, but I'll probably wait for the price to go down first. ODST wasn't worth anywhere near what they asked for it.

I don't know, Halo is the Goldeneye 64 of last generation, so people seem to hold Bungie in high regard. I'm not saying they're the Rare of 2009 of course, but it seems like they've lost their touch.

Seriously? I mean, it''s Halo. They're all the same.

Yes, they're all awesome. :)

I'm not really into online multi-player because I can't stand the people there, but the Halo games in my opinion provide a really good blockbuster sci-fi movie feel. Wave after wave of enemies, smart and frustrating enemies on the hardest difficulty. Master Chief and Cortana are great characters. The music KICKS ASS. Flaws? Sure, but I still love them.

Halo's got a pretty cool backstory. I'm more interested in the Halo universe overall than I am in the actual games.

Same, which is a shame that the trailer seems to contradict the backstory from the books which I thought were Canon...

How? The trailer doesn't show anything besides a group of Spartans getting ready to go into battle. None of that in the books? :wtf:

"Halo: Reach is a prequel to Halo: Combat Evolved that takes place during the Battle of Reach, featured in Halo: The Fall of Reach and Halo: First Strike, near the end of the Human-Covenant War. The game follows the actions of Noble Team, a United Nations Space Command special operations unit composed of six SPARTAN-II supersoldiers. Players assume the role of the Lieutenant, a replacement for a presumably deceased member of the Noble squad and is identified by the callsign Noble Six."

Master Chief was enlisted, you play an officer in this game, not Chief, if that's what you're alluding to.
