HALO Anime. It's official (Trailer released)

Somehow 'oneshot' and 'anthology' doesn't inspire much interest with me. That may change as information comes out. But for now, meh.

Those of you that don't like The Animatrix as whole, did you at least like The Second Renaissance 1 and/or 2?

I like The Animatrix and I thought that was the best of the bunch. Of particular note, I also thought Beyond, the story with the girl and her cat, was great.

The Second Renaissance is the main reason why I hate the Animatrix.

Interesting, care to elaborate?

Alright, I will.

First off:

1 - I love the Matrix, and I enjoy watching anime. I thought the Animatrix would rule.

2 - People have different tastes. I can understand why many people like the Animatrix, especially the Second Renaissance. The animation is outstanding. There are many good qualities as well.

Why I hate it? It's the story.

The story in the Second Renaissance a jumble mess of cliches and copied ideas from better scifi movies. It's over the top and preachy about how evil and stupid humans are and how pure and innocent the robots are. No shades of gray. Every minute, that message is hammered to the viewers, with the subtlety of a sludge hammer. It a miracle we would be able to invent the wheel, let alone AI.

A robot on trial. Any machines that cause pain or death to people can be recalled. We don't have trials for toasters or SUVs. Can't a company send that robot to a 'repair' shop and have it 'repaired'. Make new robots with the "I, Robot" not hurt humans protocol.

Leaders can't stop people from buying items made from the Machines. Please. Tariffs, embargoes, blockades, heck, even fear campaigns, like claiming their products are harmful to the environment. These things exist today.

Humans threw the robots into the ocean. Oh no, can't melt them to make other products, or at least get rid of the AI chips. That'll actually make sense.

Our weapons can't stop machines. Are they kidding us? I saw the devastation our bombs can do to (not first hand). We destroy machines, buildings, tanks, etc. Anything that can be build, we can blow up. Did we forget how to use weapons that create an EMP or armor piercing rounds.

I don't remember much more. It's been a while since I watched it.

I love the Second Renaissance but I never considered it the true history of the Matrix. In the same way that the winners of a war rewrite the history books I choose to look at that short film as how the machines remembered the first war. It's more interesting to watch if you think of it that way. There is some truth to it but it's very obvious the story is very one sided in showing who the good guys are.

Here are descriptions of all the animated shorts.

http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Halo_Legends

Prototype: A Marine has been sent to a distant planet to destroy a prototype powered armor, but when he arrives, he finds the planet is still inhabited by humans who are under siege by the Covenant. The suit is their only hope for survival. So he disobeys orders and keeps the suit, at least temporarily, to help the civilians.

The Package: A CGI-film taking place during a SPARTAN-II raid on a Covenant CCS-class Battlecruiser using the Booster Frames.

Duel: Taking place during the time of the Sangheili-San 'Shyuum alliance, forming the Covenant Empire.

Homecoming: Focused on the tragedies involving the SPARTAN-II recruitment in 2517, and the Spartans coming to terms with their origins.

Origins: An expansive history of the 100,000 year long Halo universe. It is comprised of two parts.

Babysitter: A story about the rivalry between the SPARTAN-II Commandos and the Orbital Drop Shock Troopers.

Odd One Out: A non-canon and satirical interpretation of the Halo universe featuring SPARTAN-1337.

It's cool that they're picking out some stuff from the novels, like the SPARTAN/ODST rivalry and the SPARTAN recruitment program.

Bumpity bump. Anyone actually pick it up?

Between the episodes they showed, which were mostly disappointing (maybe because of the English cast) and the three new episodes on the DVD, this was kind of a bust. Not sure who is to blame I guess... but Homecoming is probably the only one worth watching of the bunch. Oh well. At least it was half price in Canada. :lol

I tried to watch it, but after the first three... I dunno, episodes? I gave up on it. Just more pretentious storytelling told by people trying to be deep and philosophical but instead coming across as pompous idiots. Christ, I hate what anime has lead to. Practically anything I try to watch in that style has the same kind of crap associated with it.

Hey, don't blame "anime" for that... I mean, I don't blame "movies" for Transformers 2.

Blame the writing... and whoever was behind it (I'm assuming 343/Frankie O'Connor).

The thought Legends was worth watching. But I buy most of the Halo stuff that is released. I just checked on Amazon.com and it looks like the DVD has the original Japanese audio track which is good news. I like my anime subtitled.

Yeah, the Japanese makes it less horrible. The Toei gag episode is just bad in English.

American voice actors should just stick to Nicktoons stuff, especially when it comes to comedy. :p
