Halo 5: Guardians

I did think that the Librarian kind of came out of nowhere, but I didn't have any issues with the Didact since it seemed pretty clear he'd been trapped inside Requiem all that time.
I understood that part, but I had absolutely no understanding of his motivations, his background, or his plan. From my perspective, he was just some monster thing that hated humans and attempted to wipe us out with some magical superweapon.

From playing the earlier Halo games, I had no idea that humanity had an interstellar empire 100,000 years ago that rivalled the Forerunners. That's a very important fact to leave out of the games, don't you think? But Halo 4 just expects you know this fact, and you're expected to know about the Didact and the Librarian. Well I didn't know all that, and when I read up about it after finishing the game I thought the whole story was an outlandish retcon.

It leaves me with the feeling that 343i have a different vision for Halo than Bungie had and are willing to distort the lore to fit the story they want to tell.

Why did you think that 343 Guilty Spark thought you were a Reclaimer, then? They didn't spell it out explicitly (except maybe in some of the terminals I don't remember), but there's hints there.

Because I assumed he was a simplistic and corrupted AI that recognised the Chief as one of the Forerunner's chosen successors but didn't have the programming to properly express that.

Come to think of it, didn't Guilty Spark actually say that the Master Chief was Forerunner? That led me to believe that modern humans were descendants of Forerunners, not a totally separate species who also had their own interstellar empire and warred with the Forerunners.

I much preferred Bungie's approach to the tie-in material. Entirely separate, independent, only loosely even related, and they'll contradict it in a heartbeat if they feel like it.

The ancient space humans nonsense was exactly the kind of thing that should have been ignored.

That didn't show up in the novels until the first of the Halo 4 tie-ins, though (with the Forerunner trilogy). The game went there first.

looks like the Chief's gonna be gettin some forerunner upgrades soon
Nope, the character depicted is a new introduction into the franchise called Agent Locke.

343 studio boss Bonnie Ross told Eurogamer that Halo 5: Guardians features a new Spartan character, called Agent Locke. He plays a "key role" in the game, she said. But what role? Halo Nightfall, the digital series produced by Ridley Scott, will tell his origin story. Expect the first episode to come out with Halo: The Master Chief Collection on 11th November 2014, with subsequent episodes released in the weeks after the game's launch.

I would very much enjoy playing an ONI agent, if he indeed turns out to be one.

Some Nightfall stuff was shown at Comic-Con. Here's a banner:

They also released a number of images, which can be found here.

Agent Locke is indeed playable in Halo 5: Guardians.
Err. Well, the Arbiter sections worked well enough in Halo 2. As long as this is a similar parallel plot, instead of an arbitrary viewpoint switch, I think it'll be fine. It'll be harder to distinguish the two characters than John/Arbiter were.

I thought 343 did a good job with the Halo games after Bungie got out from under Micro$haft's thumb.

But now, I'm more interested in the upcoming Bungie game, Destiny, rather than another Halo entry. :) Having played the beta (PS4)...I think it's goinna rock.

Our first official look at Halo 5 multiplayer comes tonight via Halo Fest, where a full exhibition match of the MP beta will be played. The event will be streaming live on Xbox Live, Xbox.com, Twitch, IGN, Gamespot, and other places beginning tonight at 8PMPT/11EST. Also to be streamed during Halo Fest will be the first episode of Halo: Nightfall, as well as developer interviews.

I'm getting impatient!!!

Do you watch Marvel's Agents of SHIELD? On last night's episode, some of the agents were playing Halo 2 HD! Check my FB page, I've taken a screencap.

I case you missed the live stream, here's the MP beta exhibition match portion in it's entirety:

Ready Up Live has posted a full hour of Halo 5 MP Beta gameplay on YouTube. No commentary, just raw gameplay. The video features the Slayer and Breakout game types on the maps Empire, Crossfire, and Truth.

Speaking of "SLAYER!", I hate the new announcer. I want Halo: CE guy back.

It's the same guy that's done the previous 6 games. I just listened to the gameplay video again, and I'm 100% certain it's Jeff Steitzer. They obviously electronically altered his voice a bit, so that might be what threw you off.

Wow, that's still him? I loaded up a map of H2A (I think the Blood Gulch variant), and it didn't sound like him at all - although it might also have been due to pronunciation (which was extremely off), and digital processing as you said.
