Halloween Episodes

I tried posting this on an older thread about Halloween episodes but the thread was out of commission for quite a while and I was advised to create a new one (sorry, I'm a bit OCD when it comes to creating new threads, I always look for active threads before starting something new and I didn't realize it was too old to be brought back from the dead). The older thread has some good ideas about Halloween episodes too.

Some of the episodes listed previously are good choices and there were a few I hadn't thought of previously (like the Man Trap).

But I have one for each series (except for Discovery as I have not seen it yet--waiting for the Blu-Ray).

Enterprise: "Impulse"--that one was pretty easy with the zombie like Vulcans.

Star Trek: "Catspaw"--again another easy episode, also incidentally one of the only Star Trek episodes of any series to be holiday themed on purpose

TNG: "Night Terrors" the scene where Crusher is in the 'morgue' and all the bodies sit up was classic ;)

DS9: "Empok Nor". The combination of hostile Cardassians, the hunting of O'Brien by Garak and the dark lighting all add to a creepy feeling on the station

Voyager: "The Haunting of Deck 12" is an obvious one. This year I went down a different track though and went with "The Thaw" because of it's focus on fear, and clowns are always creepy...right

As for the movies, there weren't any really scary movies. First Contact is the best I could come up with because the Borg were always a little creepy and with the make up and filming effects in the film they managed to make the Borg in the film look even more sinister.

Sorry that the other thread got locked. I hate when they do that, because I always avoid starting new threads myself.

Anyway, here's a link to the (now-closed) old thread.

Thanks. I wasn't sure how to link the old thread. I'll have to remember the 1 year rule for old posts. On another forum here I had once created a new thread without realizing there was an old thread and that time I was told to use the old one instead of creating a new one. I wish I can remember what it was.

I initially thought it would be better to post on an existing thread then start a new one to be efficient and save space. Though I guess it doesn't really matter for memory space whether it's an old or new thread.

It's probably reaching a bit, but I thought maybe "Day of the Dove" because of the bad guy entity, most of the crew being cut off, the ship careening off into the void, the officers acting violent and even some of the dark lighting.

Voyager's "Macrocosm" could be another, esp. if you hate bug/virus like organisms.

In DS9 "Distant Voices" is another possibility since Bashir is trapped in his own mind and a sinister looking alien is trying to 'kill' him.

Enterprise "Fight or Flight" has some potential. Elements of "Regeneration" too.

As for Discovery episodes, I guess the third episode ("Context is for Kings") is the closest to a Halloween episode, at least the Alienesque parts, although the serialized nature of the season makes it hard to seperate them by theme.

Years ago, the Space channel in Canada chose spooky episodes of each Trek series to air on Halloween. Their choices were:
TOS: Catspaw
TNG: Sub Rosa
DS9: The Muse
VOY: Barge of the Dead

I could maybe see Sub Rosa, though it's not a favorite episode of mine (though not Threshold level bad). But yeah, from a classic haunting perspective I could see it. The Muse though is a bit of a stretch. I'm not really seeing the spooky Halloween feel from it. I hadn't thought of Barge of the Dead but that works.

^ Schisms is a great one, that scared the hell out of me when I was a kid.

Yeah, Schisms was good. I also saw on the official website "Phantasms". That could work also.

Spectre of the Gun (50th anniversary yesterday) has a very spooky vibe to it almost like a Twilight Zone. the fact it came out near Halloween must mean it was somewhat intended to be a Halloween type ep like Catspaw??

I would add TNG's Conspiracy to the list. It's got the Halloween vibe, with starfleet eating bugs and Remmick's exploding head.

I would also include Genesis in that same vain as Conspiracy. It's not all out horror, but it's still pretty scary.

Perhaps I am misremembering, but between Braga and Fuller, Voyager must have had many horror-inspired episodes, no?

That's the thing about Star Trek, beginning with The Man Trap, it leans towards horror and thriller-type stories just out of the nature of being an action-adventure in space. Many run of the mill Star Trek episode plots would be Halloweenesque if adapted to another show.

I think "Doctor's Orders" from ENT qualifies just on the strength of the Hoshi shower scene alone.

You probably already know this, but a fellow in this very thread wrote a follow up to this episode called "Day of the Vulture."
