Halloween 2019 Thread: Pics, Events, etc.

I love Halloween but I’m not a huge decorator anymore. At one time I was, but because of certain things, I’m just not into it anymore. So here is our newest addition for Halloween.

Halloween. I’m not a fan. Despite my fondness for all things spooky creepy, I just don’t like it.

I’m trying not to be an utter grump this year, so I have bought a pumpkin shaped lantern to put outside, real pumpkins aren’t available here for actual Halloween, and they begin to rot.

I bought lots of treats for the scallies knocking at the door, and I will take the kids round the streets knocking.

It’s the school Halloween disco tonight, and tomorrow they can wear costumes and tell ghost stories to their classmates. I wrote a story for them to read but apparently it’s too scary for them.

Hallowe’en, it’s not my thing.

Oh, wow!

I stayed for a few months in Lytham St Annes.

I didn't know you were in that area (not that I would've known you at the time).
I was in Lytham on Monday. We had a coffee at Lytham Hall after dropping off a rented guitar in Chorley.

What brought you to my neck of the woods?

I was visiting a friend and trying to decide if I wanted to emigrate to the UK at the time.

As someone might say, "It's a nice place, but I wouldn't want to live there." But really, I had a lot going on in my life that made me homesick and the UK is just different enough to add more stress to my situation and make me miss home even more. I cut my visit short by a couple of months; I was scheduled to be there for about six months but left after around four or so.

I'm pretty sure I shouldn't have been where I could take this pic:

It was a very disappointing Halloween. I love handing out candy to the kiddos but hardly anyone came at all. We usually get overrun with trick or treaters but not this year. We had a sudden cold snap--got down to just above freezing, which is not at all normal for this area, at this time of year. Hardly anyone came at all. We bought three big bags of candy--and wondered if it would be enough. We just barely emptied one bag. Hubby hauled off all the rest (er..aside from a little "stash" I kept for myself) to the university, so all the staff could have some. I guess I will pull the decorations up later today.

I made some "spooky eyes" with glow sticks and cardboard, and hid them in the bushes. Once it got dark enough, it looked really good. One of the few parents that came by commented on it.

It's been that way for about the last 10 years for us. It's been decreasing year after year. I can't even remember the last time we had 100 kids, or even 50. Now we're lucky if we even get 10. We got one knock on the door last night; a round with six kids. That's the extent of it. We had prepared 10 bags of goodies.
