Hall of Fame

Mr. Mugato

Lieutenant Junior Grade
Red Shirt
For those of you who have not dropped in to check out the Another small, old ship thread (and I HIGHLY recommend you do) in it, I suggested the creation of a Hall of Fame thread for the Fan Art Forum.

Kaziarl seemed to like the idea and added his own thoughts to my suggestion.

Basically, we want to know if anyone would be interested in a stickied thread to show off the really exceptional work people do around here.

If you see something you like you could "nominate it" to the Hall of Fame by posting a yes/no poll.

After a week (if it gets voted in) 1 image and a link to the original thread from whence it came would be added to the permanent Hall of Fame thread. (I suggest a single image and a link rather than a lot of nice pictures to keep the Hall of Fame thread streamlined and easy to use)

It would be one-stop-shopping to find the best of the Fan Art Forum.

I know that there are already a lot of stickied threads, but if something like the Calendar Project, which hasn't had any SERIOUS action in who knows how long is deserving, surely a place to keep the great art in this forum from slipping into obscurity is equally deserving.

Thoughts?

(Kaziarl, if I missed anything please feel free to jump in and correct me :))

Actually, I like the idea too. My first nominations would be works by Vektor, deg, Madman1701A, Dennis (Bailey) and TallGuy.

I'm sure I'm leaving other folks out (sorry, I'm older and have CRS right now) but I'm sure some others would fill in the forgotten. If it was a stickied thread, It would also have to have a waring about being image intensive for the "dial-up" crowd.

I'm not sure it should be threads, how about a gallery instead? It would be a lot more accessible quickly than ploughing through pages of writing.

^ A Gallery would be perfect, probably in-line with what the OP was thinking (correct me if I'm wrong here). I'm just really unsure how one would go about constructing a "gallery". If a Mod or someone else could shed some light on it, I'd fully support it. There are many, many talented artists that frequent/contribute to this form, I'd fully support giving them their due...

Let me clarify - I DEFINITELY think it should be a gallery, but I don't want it to get filled with hundreds of pictures making it hard (although quite enjoyable) to look through.

My thinking was that if you could post a single picture to represent each hall of fame entry, the thread would be much easier for people to scan through and see all the great work, or find a particular entry (ship, uniform whatever) that they are looking for.

If they want to see more of a particular entry, then they could click on the link below the 1 picture and it would take them to somewhere of the artist's choosing i.e. the original "work in progress thread" from which it was nominated, or a flickr account, personal webpage, new thread containing more pictures, what have you.

For example:

Vektor's Vanguard is one of my all time favorite ships - Trek or otherwise.

I wanted to see it the other day but couldn't for the life of me remember that it was called the Vanguard.

It can be a challenge to hunt around for some of the great work that has been done on this board, but due to time or a lack of recent updates has slipped of the "front page"

If the Vanguard was in the theoretical "Hall-of-Fame" I cold quickly scan through the hall-of-fame thread and find the art work (in this case a ship) that I was looking for. I could click the link that goes with it and be taken to the original Fan Art Thread for the Vanguard, or to Vektor's personal webpage, or a thread at scifi-meshes, or even a New thread here on the Fan Art page that Vektor set up with additional pictures of the Vanguard to "celebrate" it's inclusion to the "hall", what ever he would prefer.
