She put Paris in his place and his cute boy attitude didn't work on her. I saw a lot of potential in her perhaps she would have competed with Torres for his love.
Just because one is Betazoid does not automatically mean they would make a good psychologist. That's like saying all Vulcans should be scientists, and saying Tuvok should have been trained to be a scientist.
True, and I agree. However, it would be a better use of a Betazoid than how TNG used Troi. A crew stranded 75 years from home? A counselor would be more fully utilized in this series, I think.
Still, she's a pilot and spent her career training to be a pilot. Suddenly, because they're on a ship stranded from home she's told "you have to be a psychologist now because we need one and Betazoids seem suited to that job." "But I'm a starship pilot." "It's cool, so's that guy who was doing time in prison before we left."
I really liked Stadi. I think a sassy Betazoid could've been a good recurring character. The problem is it would be somewhat redundant, with Tuvok and Kes already being telepaths, and B'Elanna and Seska in charge of the sass. I think Stadi served to show us that those who died in the Caretaker incident were real people, with their own backgrounds and personalities, and to show us what kind of woman Tom Paris is into. Stadi and Rein Robinson both seem to foreshadow which Voyager regular gal Tom will eventually go for.
That said, I do love seeing and using Stadi in AU stories or flashbacks or what-not.

Hydroponics? IIRC that was the job she originally volunteered for anyway. Though incidently, IMO, Ship's Xenobiologist Wildman would have made more sense than either as Ship's Nurse.

That early in the journey when the EMH couldn't leave the ship, it would make sense for more than one person to train in at least emergency medicine. So in an AU like you propose, there could be these 3 working different shifts.

Yeah, but Tom was selected as the medic/nurse on the basis of having studied chemistry. Which might work for him doing Tarses' job as pharmacist (on the E-D), but comes up a bit short for general medicine.
Organic chemistry, which is actually somewhat useful in medicine. If he'd taken some other branch of chemistry that had nothing to do with biology, I'd question it.
Janeway made a decision in a hurry, and despite all his complaining, Tom did step up and become a competent medic.
Actually, it was biochemistry, but I accept your point. Actually, having Paris as the field medic isn't necessarily the issue, given he regularly joined away teams it makes a certain amount of sense. My objection to him being the assistant in sickbay is that they need him sharp for piloting duties.
I recently watched the episode in which he was drafted for medic duties. He stated it was organic chemistry.
Not according to Netflix UK, Memory Alpha, or Chakoteya.net who agree that it was "biochemistry". However, the more important point is that Paris' abilities as an assistant were regarded as inferior by The Doctor compared to Kes, and involving Wildman as well would have allowed them to have a broader supporting cast which could only have been a good thing.
Why would we want to 'hook up' everyone? Would have been much more refreshing if she turned out to be a strong character that wasn't into men (or perhaps not into amorous relationships at all).
