Had my upper wisdom teeth yanked out today!

First oral surgery experience I’ve ever had. About 2 hours ago the uppers came out. The worst part was probably the needle injections in the gums for the for the pain. Wasn’t bad though, didn’t even feel the teeth come out. I had psyched myself out over the pain but they did great! Now I’m home with a glass of water and a bottle of vikodin on standby just in case.

:(Pitty me! LOL! ;)

It will be sooooo nice to be able to chew like a normal person again after all this time.

You didn't get knocked out? Damn, I couldn't imagine being awake through it all. Then again, all 4 of mine were severly impacted and it was a 3 hour+ surgery so...

You have my sympathy. I had all of mine (upper and lower) yanked in one sitting in October 2007.

I had my upper left one yanked out just over a year ago. They were going to put a filling in but after looking at the x-ray or something they said it would be a lot better to just take it out (or as I imagine they just couldn't be bothered, typical NHS policy)
I got a bit worried after hearing the horror stories over the years, but they smacked me up with anasthetic, and though it took a while, it didn't hurt or anything. Just a bit discomforting for a bit. Especially when the dentist had trouble getting it out and had to go get another dentist to help
Felt like I was starring in "Hostel part 3" for a minute or two, but it was ok in the end!

Had all 4 out last year, badly impacted so they put me under. Horrible, big stitches because they had to do a lot of digging, much pain for days also lost all the feeling in my tongue and lower lip for about 2 months due to nerve damage although it eventually came back.

I had a tendon in my knee completely replaced a few months later and screws in my knee, and the wisdom teeth were WAY more uncomfortable than that. I pity anybody who ever has to have it done. And you are reading this and you are going have it done yourself and it's making you nervous then good, because you are RIGHT to be.

Scary.

I'm having two wisdom teeth and a sensitive back tooth removed soon. I'm terrified...

I bloody hate the sadist dentist... somebody THAT desensitized to inflicting terrible pain scares me.

It's not too bad, so far. Some of the horror stories in this thread make me feel real lucky.

The upper are the easy ones.
It's the lower ones that are a total bitch.

I had my 2 lower surgically removed a few years back.

I could kill you were you stand for just saying hello for a couple of days after the removal.

I was lucky enough though and had no nerve damage whatsoever.
I still have one of the upper ones that will have to be removed some time in the future.

I only had 3 wisdom teeth to start with--they took 1 one time and then the other 2. Fully conscious--just numbed up. I have no idea how they fit in there. Not impacted, but very "short" and the roots went almost sideways. I have a small jaw.

Yeah, it's the shots that hurt. I told my dentist once that I felt more than one pain, like a new one as the needle went in. He asked how many. I said "6." He said the needle goes into/through 6 lays in the cheek.

Is that true?

Anyway--take good care of your teeth! In three months, I go back to the dentist to see if the implant is secure, so they can put a new new crown on. That tooth had a filling, then a new filling, then a gold crown, then a new gold crown, then root canal, then I cracked the damn thing in two places.

I have a very hard bite when I sleep. The dentist said that I actually have strong teeth, which is why I keep breaking them. For the 8 molars, this will be my 15th--obviously, I've had to replace some crowns. I have a very hard bite. Replacement tooth is over $2000 US.

Let me tell you--yanking the tooth out was nothing compared to them DRILLING INTO MY JAW for the implant. SHIT!! That just felt wrong.

Hopefully, I won't wake up in the middle of the night sometime, having broken my jaw.

I had all four removed in one sitting a couple of years ago. They weren't impacted at all so there was no problem. I'm told I was awake for the procedure, but the anesthesiologist was good enough to keep me below the memory threshold. I don't remember a thing between sitting down in the chair and realizing I was already in the car on the way home.

Had my two rear wisdoms on the right removed (one up, one down) back in the spring of 2002, using a private dentist in Scotland. Very hi-tech stuff, nice New Zealander assistant, and a surgeon who looked like Paul Sorvino. Best extraction ever - both done on the same day, under Local, and completely painless. (They even invited me to drinks a few weeks later to celebrate their moving site to a different surgery. I declined as it was too far away.)

Later had the left rear lower wisdom tooth taken out in September 2005 - by that time I had moved to England and had begun a dental plan [Lisa needs braces! - someone] at a dental surgeon's near the place where I worked. Despite also being done under Local, I ended up with a dry socket requiring frequent visits for redressing (but no antibiotics). Ruined my birthday, my study leave, and the climax of the Ashes that year. :(

Now I'm scared again. I still have a lower one to go. Years ago, I was supposed to have one of my lowers pulled. As I was sitting in the waiting room of the oral surgeon, I heard this blood-curdling scream. I bolted and didn't go back until last May. By that time, my fear of any dental practitioner had taken its toll. Because I waited so long, I've had to endure 16 dental appointments in the last 8 months. I'm almost done, but I still have that lower molar on the docket.

had 3 taken out at once in 2007.

Sound asleep the whole time.

Perkaset did the trick for me when I got home.

They pulled my lower left wisdom tooth two weeks ago. Apparently I have humongous molars so the extraction (although not painful) left a nasty wound that has taken almost two weeks to fully heal. The first few days eating and drinking was quite an excercise. I will not mention the pain and agony :(.

I still have five wisdom teeth left though, and the lower right one is due for extraction in May.

5? What kinda mutant are you? ;)

After having what was left of an upper puller last year, I grew accustomed to the taste of blood. So much that I began preying on the living...

Nah, but damn those bleed.

I hate the way the anethesia made parts of my mouth feel like plastic. Is that the hell that a sentient robot would endure?
