H1N1 (Swine Flu) in my hometown. Holy crap!

You're probably more likely to get struck by lightening than to get swine flu.
That's not true at all but the sentiment is correct.

According to lightningsafety.noaa.gov: 1 in 400,000 chance of being struck by lightning in a year.

OVer 4,000 cases of swine flu in the U.S.A. alone, in a population of over 300 million. Factor in you really need to be in an affected area or know someone infected to get it (since many cases are isolated groups), I'd say the odds are pretty darn close, if not slightly better in favor of lightning.

we in the northern hemisphere are in the period of time where most flu's are dormant.
there is some concern about just what this thing might do in the fall/winter.

it may stay fairly mild or we may see more strains like some of those in mexico that was for awhile taking down young healthy people.

for awhile in mexico it was worse.
it was hitting the younger and more healthy pretty hard. especially if the didnt get medical treatment right away.
then as it traveled through people it seemed to shift to a milder more normal form with a few exceptions.

I had it. I took tamiflu so it wasn't too bad, although it did knock my on my ass for a couple of weeks.
