Have you played it? Do you recommend it? Is it worth it? A local shop has it and I'm intrigued to buy it but I don't have any experience with any of GURPS series at all so I don't know what to expect.

I've played GURPS but it has literally been years since I have played. From what I remember it was pretty fun. I have never played the Space version though.
GURPS is a fun system, but bear in mind GURPS Space isn't stand-alone, you'll need the GURPS Basic Set and Campaigns books as well at a minimum.
The game itself has been out of print for a number of years now, so I'm unsure if there is planned a new edition in the future.
Fantasy Flight are going to be releasing Genesys, which will be a generic RPG using the Narrative Dice System utilised in their Star Wars RPG system. May be worth holding on until that's out rather than relying on hopefully finding GURPS books not at scalper prices.
