gunman Raoul Moat may have been found.

Isn't there a name for it ~ someone that wants themselves killed by the police?
That's exactly what he wants and the attention!
And the SAS are doing such a great job
Get him down and put him inside, where he can go slowly even more mad!

Suicide by cop - its an incredibly selfish thing to do, really. Forcing someone to have to shoot you.

The SAS?

He needs to face justice for his three victims he shot in cold blood. If he's allowed to die here, either by his own hand or by an officer's rifle, he's escaped that justice. And that would be a failure of this hunt.

Reports of a gunshot being heard and lots of shouting.

Edited to correct: apparently 2 shots. An ambulance accompanied by two police vehicles has now apparently left the scene on blues-n-twos.

Northumbria Police confirming that the suspect has at least one gunshot wound and is receiving treatment.

That was extremely confusing - it was running live on Sky News in the small hours & everything seemed to be getting reported third hand »

A shot has been fired . . . a person has been taken off in an ambulance . . . Raoul Moat has died in hospital

No continuity at all.

He was declared dead at hospital - unlike some countries, such as Australia, it's the norm in England for only certain personnel to have the authority to officially decide a person is dead. If the ambulance crew picked up a head from one side of the road and the torso from the other side of the road the person still wouldn't be "dead" until stated so at hospital.

And nothing of value was lost.

Also, has anyone noticed that these things usually happen up north?

They tasered him around the time he shot himself. The police didn't look too happy to have found him....

Seriously, that's a pic of the officers in question, earlier in the evening. :D

I imagine their chief concern was someone milling around taking photos in the middle of their exclusion zone. Alternatively, he's just shouting and they happen to have snapped one of those shots they use in Heat where Victoria Beckham looked pissed off for a fraction of a second, so they print POSH AND BECKS IMPLODING? ;)

^ I just spent at least 30 seconds thinking "wtf, Victoria Beckham was in Heat? Shit, I don't remember that scene!"
