Guardians of The Galaxy Volume 3

Let's be honest, no actor from The Rock to Hugh Jackman and everyone inbetween gets that sort of body without a (un)healthy dose of drugs. And if you don't believe me ask the Liver King guy...

Unless you go full unhealthy, meaning drugs and very unhealthy amounts of bodybuilding, age is a thing. I'm 40 right now, and my entire body is different compared to 5 years ago.

Amen to that. I dropped 115 pounds in a year back in 2006-7. Over the years, I put a good bit of it back on. When I was 36, it was easy to lose with determination and hard work. But now that I'm 52, the same methods I used then don't work nearly as well. It's frustrating as hell.

Why do you think that?

It is possible but when you do it it is the entire focus of your life for a few months ( less for the Rock because he is already there and is keeping his level). Normal people won't be able to do it 99% of the time because of regular jobs and other demands on their time but these A Listers have assistants, nutritionists and personal trainers everywhere and all they have to do is show up and do the work. This is their job and nothing else for a while.

Even past 40 it is possible, even at 50+ - it just gets much harder after a certain age.

Completely understand and approve this. It is ridiculous to which length some actors go to bulk up - Hemsworth didn't even start to look human in Thor 4. Hell, they made Paul Rudd, mostly known for his comedy roles, get a sixpack and they always find more or less ridiculous ways to get them to drop the shirt. It's ridiculous and the same applies to the women too - still kinda mad at the prolonged ass shot of Johanssen at the beginning of Winter Soldier.

Not to mention Chris Pratt who also appears to be returning to his normal body. Hemsworth's wife said she didn't like his Thor body at all--too abnormal I imagine. Yes, super-heroes should have a physique that makes them look capable of doing the things they do, but costume designs and CGI can take care of the fine details. It is interesting though, how the sheer amount of action films today means subjecting male actors to the same kinds of demands that have been placed on women for years.

In the trailer in that last scene... did draw have Star Trek insignia on his shirt??
No.

I think a lot of it depends on the mentality of the actor. There are Hemsworths and Jackmans and Cavills (oh my), but there are many examples of actors who just went, "Nah, forget that." (Robert Pattinson and January Jones spring immediately to mind. RDj briefly stepped up his workout game (IM2) before evidently deciding it wasn't worth the effort. Paul Rudd got ripped for Ant-Man but then went back to just being in his regular good shape. Michael Keaton has been eschewing that kind of thing for decades now. :))

Not that it matters but i noticed this in the Holiday Special - did Bautista put on a little weight? ;) His face looks a bit more round than in Guardians 1 or 2.
He's also had fillers or something in his face. Compare his new mouth to the one he had before, it's quite different.

Hhmhh, Drex alien with sexy dad bod? Yum yum.

But I guess they’ll now run the franchise firmly into the ground by killing Rocket because stakes/drama/etc. Oh well.

For a guy able to throw around cars maybe a bit of workout is necessary but the degree to which Hemsworth did it was just too much. I wouldn't enjoy any movie less if the people had regular, healthy bodies and wouldn't have to torture themselves for months just for a few seconds of shirt off. Same applies to the beach football scene in Top Gun Maverick - the actors talked about how intense the training for this was for a minute long sequence. I get that movies have a different aesthetics requirement being entertainment but i guess few actual pilots had sixpacks, even in their prime in their mid20s.

But the studio bosses make the decision and they apparently believe sixpacks and big biceps are necessary to sell the characters whereas i believe most movie goes could care less because it's about the characters, the story and the spectacle.

No.

This i don't understand even more - if a character is wearing a suit, much less an armored one, why would he/she need abs? I applaud any actor/actress who tells the studio to fuck off - they should have been hired for their acting skills, not their ability to gain sixpacks. As much as i love the MCU this is something i really dislike and they also like to hype it up in the marketing every time by showing how hard the actor trained - as if i care about that when i watch the movie.

Get them on a healthy diet and regular low to mid intensity workouts ( you know, what regular people can do if they want to stay fit) and it should be enough. Most of the time you can't even see the muscle under the suits and CGI. Just boggles my mind.

Yeah, I've never understood the obsession with making actors get into ridiculous shape for superhero roles. I can understand wanting them to be in good shape, but I think they do take it a bit to far at times. I don't know if it's true or not, but my mom said she heard that when they do shirtless scenes they make them get really dehydrated because it makes the muscles standout more.
Looks like they are trying to be as emotional as the video game. I doubt it will be though.
Curious how they will handle Gamora. Is she going to get back those memories? How does this time displaced thing work?
Since this Gamora never experienced any of that, she can't get those memories back. All they would be doing is giving her the other Gamora's memories, and I'm not sure if they'd want to do that.
But I guess they’ll now run the franchise firmly into the ground by killing Rocket because stakes/drama/etc. Oh well.
This is going to be the last time we see these characters, so killing at least one or two of them wouldn't be totally out of the realm of possibility. If the franchise can survive the loss of Steve Rogers and Tony Stark, I'm pretty sure it could survive the loss of Rocket.

This is going to be the last time we see these characters,

I don't that's been stated. We know Bautista has said this will be his last appearance as Drax, but if his character survives then he might be convinced to return. Same for Saldana whose said she's experiencing "fatigue" with the character but hasn't said definitively that she won't play Gamora again. I don't think we've heard anything from the others. We only know that this is the end for Gunn's version of the team, but we don't know if that means the characters themselves or just Gunn's particular take on them.

He does if some of the characters die and some of the actors have said they're done after this one. This has been known for years, I think even Feige has mentioned it's the last movie with this lineup.

That's true, The Guardians will probably move on to a new chapter though--with new members.

Question is if the audience will move with it if and when this happens with a new team.

As far as i understand have seen online Marvel is in a bit of crisis mode since Phase 4 failed to meet their expectations because the reception has been kind of lukewarm on average.

Quite a bit of Phase 5 and 6 has also now been delayed, no one knows why but the rumor mill is hard at work. Blade seems to be especially in trouble due to the director walking away and Mahershala Ali openly talking about his dissatisfaction with the script.
