The 3D was pretty good, to the point where I didn't notice any of the typical conversion artifacts. But it is still a conversion rather than native 3D, so bear that in mind.

Yeah, he made it clear that the music was from his mom's era for the most part.
Definitely wanna see this at the theater again at some point. 6 days later I'm still laughing to myself at the dance-off part.

Time travel = Time Gem/Stone.
If they at some point, not necessarily the next movie, want to find use the Time Gem/Stone, then they have to have a time travel movie eventually.

Peter may have "chosen" to stay in space, or was told that bad shit would happen if he went back and shared alien tech with the humans... But why the frakk did Thanos need the Tesseract to invade Earth by wormhole, when it's a doable trip in hours to a month at most with conventional engines?

Thanos didn't need to invade earth, Loki did and he madea deal with Thanos to give him the tesseract. Just as Thanos made a deal with Ronan to get the power gem and Ronan reneged on the deal.
Especially when he lives on Saturn (I think the location card said Saturn?).
There's a lot of speculation that Loki's staff given to him by The Other and Thanos contains the Mind Stone. If Thanos wants explicitly the Tesseract, and the Orb, and implicitly the Aether, why would he give Loki the staff containing a stone he already has?
Sanctuary. Though I doubt location really matters. Both Ronan and Yondu appeared within moments of being called.
Thanos doesn't seem to like to get out of his chair. That may sound like a joke, but I'm half serious. At this point he's a schemer who sits contemplating death. The most active he's been is sending his daughters to do things for him. Even when Ronan was grandstanding in front of him, it was The Other with whom he was really having the conversation. Thanos didn't speak directly until his intermediary was no more.

We know that the Tesseract energy was able to be harnessed and used in weapons. Both HYDRA and S.H.I.E.L.D. (or is that redundant?) were working on it. Perhaps, Thanos harvested the mind stone and empowered Loki's staff with it, giving him limited control over minds. With how powerful the stones have been portrayed and how powerful the gems have been shown in the comics, Loki's staff does seem underpowered for having an Infinity Stone in it (seemingly requiring him to touch a victim with the staff and the rather easy means of shaking it off, after a bump on the head).
Anyway, I came into the thread to share an article on Suggestions for more Guardians Merchandise. Yes, it does mention dancing Groot.
However, the reason I shared it is that in this day and age when cartoons have been cancelled due to poor toy sales, not to mention The Globe and Mail stating that due to so many sequels being put out, "concern is growing that superhero fatigue will hit the toy aisle extra hard this year," we have a movie in which fans and websites are clamoring for more merchandise.
The Guardians juggernaut continues rolling. We'll see just how much tomorrow and through the weekend as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turltles hits theaters.

That's reasonable.
I think Guardians is doing well and its merchandise is selling well because it is Marvel, a brand with deserved popularity, and it is also new, and by new I mean Guardians is a property with little mainstream exposure. The merchandising also has an ensemble from which to draw. It's not an assortment of five Batmans/Spider-mans and one Joker/Electro.
For right now Thanos appears to be playing a chess game of sorts, but I do believe he helped Loki take out Odin and put Loki on the throne of Asgard at the end of The Dark World, I can't see Loki doing that on his own. Plus it was "Odin" who ordered the Aether to be given to the Collector.
I saw it last night. Loved it. Solid A from me.
I didn't know anything about Guardians going in. And I was well into the second act before I got all the names straitened out, but I didn't care. The jokes hit on all the right beats and were how I was able to connect to the characters and care about what was going on.
It didn't take itself at all seriously, which I found to be a refreshing change form the comic book norm. It had just the right amount of silliness and camp.
The plot may have been thin and the bad guy a walking cliché, but that was the whole point! It worked perfectly for the tone of the film.
The one thing I did find a bit incredulous though, was an off-brand cassette still playing (In tune!) after 16 years of continuous use.

What timeline? And it's highly unlikely that Loki took out Odin by himself if he could've he'd done it years ago he had to wait for Thor to on earth and Odin was in the Odinsleep when he took over Asgard in the first Thor movie. It's doubtful that Thanos knew where the stones but now that the Tesseract in on Asgard, the power gem in on Xandar and the Collector has the Aether he knows where they are. If the mind is in the sceptor and I think this is likely he knows where it is as well.
I guess they went with the original design (similar to Disney's Donald Duck) instead of the anthropomorphic duck humanoid from the HTD movie.
