If you're going to continue with the Marvel Cosmic, you'll find in Annihilation Conquest Groot speaks in full sentences in the Annihilation Conquest: StarLord mini-series by Keith Giffen. He's less vocal in the actual Annihilation: Conquest series and by the start of Guardians of the Galaxy, he's just saying, "I am Groot."

Movies are all distributed digitally these days I think, some schmuck probably lazily typed in Guardians and wasn't paying attention to what was selected.
Makes a fantastic change from the 'creator cheated out of rights and recognition, left to rot in poverty' narrative usually encountered with Hollywood, the comics industry and big business in general...
I was reading up on Howard the Duck on Wikipedia and saw Bill Mantlo as a Marvel comic writer who wrote an issue of the titular character. Howard's creator Gerber didn't seem to like Mantlo's take on Howard, so Gerber wrote something that would've contradicted Mantlo's story, and Marvel decided not to publish the issue. But I didn't realize Mantlo was a co-creator of Rocket.
Probably because the mission wasn't sanctioned by the Kree, so he had to recruit from outsiders.
He did once say "Behold, I am Groot the Invincible! Who dares to defy me?"
That pretty much sums up my own feelings. I had a feeling I was going to enjoy it, but I severely undestimated just how enjoyable it was going to be! Very glad there's going to be a sequel!
Marvel sure has nailed a winning formula. Take a cup of "cool heroes that exchange witty banter", a cup of "victory against insurmountable odds and an evil villain threatening the universe", a cup of "action and adventure" and a dash of "sentimentality" and mix! Lots of fun!!
One of the best superhero or space opera movies in a long time. Right up there with CA:TWS and XMen DOFP as far as quality. Except the light hearted tone and emphasis on humor makes it much more kid friendly IMO. It will be interesting to see what kind of legs this has from word of mouth.
The thing is, it's a pretty simple formula. Replace "evil villain threatening the universe" and replace with "evil villain threatening a city/town/office building" and you've got the formula for a lot of 80's action movies, such as Die Hard, Lethal Weapon, etc.
And, isn't it pretty much the formula they used for the recent Star Trek movies? Not to mention other movies. I will agree that part of what was disappointing about a movie such as Man of Steel was they forgot to add "cool hero with witty banter" and "sentimentality" to the other ingredients.
The thing I keep hearing and have to agree with about Guardians of the Galaxy is that in addition to those ingredients, it poured a more than generous amount of "fun" into the mix. I don't think I enjoyed the experience of watching the movie (versus just enjoying the movie itself) with other movies (though the "Time in a Bottle" sequence in X-Men: Days of Future Past gave me the same feeling).

It's definitely working for them, but I tend to agree with some of the critics who say it's starting to feel a little too formulaic and prepackaged at times. And that too often it feels like they just plug different characters into the same basic plot.
Although I will say I thought Guardians suffered the least from this problem of all the recent Marvel movies. And was probably the boldest and most original one in quite awhile.

Just FYI - that's been the basic format of Superhero comic books (from the 1960ies at least through the 1980ies - which was the last time I honestly read one); but in the end, it's often the characters that make or break a story.
Hollywood spent years making superhero films that tried to be either 'more sophisticated'; or did stuff to the basic characters that readers loved; and that's why many of those films didn't work as well. The Marvel formula works for people who enjoy that type of entertainment, and evidently a lot of people DO enjoy that type of entertainment.
Perhaps. But personally I like seeing a wider variety of styles in my superhero movies, whether it's the more colorful and campy Raimi Spidey films or the more grounded and gritty Nolan/Snyder films. Or something really weird and gothic like Burton's Batman.

I don't believe that it was given a name of its own.
Y'know the whole "Ronan supercharged his Universal Weapon with the Power Stone" thing made me wonder: could Thor 3 feature the MCU version of Surtur wielding Twilight, a Fire Demon sword powered by another Infinity Stone?
After it was revealed that the Tesseract was the MCU version of the Cosmic Cube and an Infinity Stone, I was a bit surprised that the Casket of Ancient Winters wasn't an Infinity Stone as well.
Wife and I saw the movie in Real D last night after a healthy (and by healthy I mean "large") Mexican dinner. We enjoyed both a great deal.
Seriously, my wife is not big into scifi or comic book movies. This one she enjoyed front to back.
It was a lot of fun. There were several things left open for a sequel, and I'm looking forward to it.

I believe that the only Infinity Gems/Stones that we haven't seen yet are the Soul Gem and the Time Gem (assuming you believe that Loki's staff houses the Mind Gem, which hasn't been confirmed, I don't think).
I think the Soul Gem could easily feature in Doctor Strange.
^I thought the Aether's identity hasn't been specified yet.
The Aether can only be the Reality Gem.
