That's possible. I think I've read a similar story on Memory Alpha.

I saw it on the hidden files (Easter eggs) on the Season 7 DVD.

Oh, maybe that's why it's familiar to me, that's the only season I have of DS9 because I missed most of it during first run. Back then, I wasn't sure what was going on when I tuned in one night and Marc Alaimo was getting to show most of his face. That must have been a relief.
