Greg Cox's Inifinite Crisis and Final Crisis

I just bought the regular paperback version of "Infinite Crisis" and noticed that "Final Crisis" comes out July 6 I think the Chapters website is. I've posted before about how much I enjoyed his "Identity Crisis" and "52" novelizations and am looking forward to reading these two. Any more DCU novelizations or projects you can let us know about Greg?

Thanks for asking!

After FINAL CRISIS, there's nothing new in the pipeline, but it sounds like you might have missed my novelization of COUNTDOWN, which came out last year.

Hope you like FINAL CRISIS. I'm eager to hear what readers think of it!

Oh yeah I did indeed forget about "Countdown" which I read and enjoyed.

Glad to hear it!

Not quite the DCU, but I've also recently written some PHANTOM and GREEN HORNET stories for Moonstone, which has been keeping my superhero itch scratched! :)

In regards to your Final Crisis book. Are any of the crossovers like the Beyond issues part of the book.

Was this easier or harder to write than the Infinite Crisis novelization?

After much soul-searching, I ended up cutting out most of SUPERMAN BEYOND, which just struck me as its own thing. But I did include the FINAL CRISIS tie-in involving Black Lightning and the Tattooed Man since that was directly connected to the events in the core mini-series, and leads straight to the Tattooed Man teaming up with JLA.

(Sadly, I also cut out the Snapper Carr/Cheetah sex scene, even though the very idea still boggles my mind!)

Not sure which was harder to write. It feels like I wrote INFINITE CRISIS centuries (or at least umpteen books) ago, so my memories are hazy. But at least FINAL CRISIS wasn't fifty-two issues long like 52 and COUNTDOWN, so it was a little easier to adapt! :)

^ So when DC comes up with YET ANOTHER crisis, will you be ready for that one too? ;)

Of course. I enjoy writing these books and characters.

In fact, come to think of it, my very first tie-in assignments were a handful of BATMAN stories I wrote back in the late eighties . . . .

I'd love to read a novelization of "New Krypton" or "Batman R.I.P." I think you'd do a terrific job (hint, hint).

Actually now that I think about it "Blackest Night" would be an interesting arc to adapted since it was their latest major storyline.

New Krypton would make a great novel, it has a very clear beginning middle and end. It doesn't just lead off into the next storyline like most crossovers, it truly ends the story. I've actually just been reading through all these recently.

Yeah, that'd be like literally beating a horse dead Greg. So how many novelizations of comic books HAVE you written now? It seems like every time I look, I see your name on some novel that I mistake for the graphic novel LOL

Technically, I've only novelized those four DC miniseries, although I've also written novels based on comic book characters like Iron Man, Daredevil, Ghost Rider, the Avengers, and the X-Men.

And that's not counting the short stories! :)

Just finished Infinite Crisis and as I stated in the what book are you reading now thread Greg I think this is right up there alongside Elliot S. Maggin's Kingdom Come novelization for me in terms of not just novelizations but favorite books. I think I enjoyed this more than the actual graphic novel and that's saying quite a bit too. You captured all the key moments and character moments that I'd hoped would be there, and I always love the little extra bits of description that are included with novelizations like this. Really great job and I look forward to the Final Crisis novel next week.

Thanks! Hope you like FINAL CRISIS. I'm eager to hear what people think of it.

Well Greg I just finished it and once again you've hit right on the mark. I can't fully explain what your adaptions have meant to me (as you might remember I read Identity Crisis while I was recovering from my first foot surgery in 07) without getting gushy and emotional. Like Elliot S. Maggins did with his "Kingdom Come" novelization you manage to make the reader relate to the superheros and make them feel as if they were right there with them among them. In each of your books I get this sense of epic scale and it's a tribute to your skill as a writer as much as was Brad, Geoff, and Grant's original words, along with Greg Ruka and the other contributors to "52".

Which brings me to my next point...do you adapt using the writer's scripts from the mini-series or do you adapt from the trades and add in your own musings and descriptions?
