you may or may not have heard that Nashville and the surrounding counties of middle Tennessee, southern Kentucky and part of west Tennessee ( millington) have been through some interesting times.

we have been told it was a thousand year flood event. it flooded in places no one ever expected it to flood.

but even though large areas are damaged the city and area are already rising up and moving forward.

Nashville is already putting out the word that the city is still open for tourists even though we have lost for awhile our major convention center and hotel (we have another non damaged down town) and major mall.

the downtown area is already drained out and a lot of it is getting ready to open for business.
and tomorrow night the symphony will be playing a free concert down town.

our major art museums are ok.. but..

it will be awhile before a lot of people recover from this.
some entire neighborhoods were devastated by the flooding.
bellevue which is a part of metro Nashville Davidson was hard hit as well as antioch, parts of west nashville, bordeaux, and well to many to mention.

below is some links to area news organizations along with links to slide shows showing what happened.

but things could have been far worse.
we are feeling the sadness for those who died but,
so many more people would have died except we had a great response from volunteers just showing up with boats and from people like the firemen, police and other emergency personal.

the swat team was out in their swift water boat in areas were the currents were too strong for an ordinary boat to handle.

many of the surrounding counties were also damaged.

so please keep us in your thoughts and maybe even pay us a visit.
despite all this we still are a good place to drop in on.

My wife's dad's place (south of Nashville) got flooded pretty good - he's posted some pretty alarming video on Facebook.
His beautiful wine cellar would see 2 feet of muddy water, along with their nice basement living room and bar. So incredibly sad what has happened down there :(

Oh POOKHA! Please know i am sending you good positive vibes and will keep you and the rest of the people in my thoughts.

I've been to Nashville four times and thoroughly enjoyed every visit. It's definitely on my recommended list.

Glad to hear that you're OK pooka. Hopefully life will return to normal quicker than people think it will.

thanks everyone..

things only looked bad for me for a little while. i live in a flat area part way down a hill. on sunday morning we had a deluge that was like a lake being emptied. i went and looked out my front door and the storm drains had water geysering out of them.
i looked out my back door and there was a raging creek in my backyard. though i dont have a creek. :p
but it never got near the house so i was ok.

the city has been both blessed and cursed due to the topography of the land. so many areas were protected due to being on a hill while the areas below suffered.

you can drive through town and not see an impacted area until you go through a low spot and there is the flood sign of trashed belongings along side the road.

we are now seeing out side help coming in. there is a church organization that travels around and brings in outside volunteers while coordinating local churches that will be going through one of the hardest hit areas to help.

though i do worry about some of the outlying counties getting help.
right now we are dealing with a yes water shortage due to being down to just one treatment plant.
but some of the counties have no usable water due to their water treatment plants ect being wiped out.

and it is going to take a long time to fix everything. one concern is that while we getting some exposure and offers of help now that we wont get as much when summer comes and people are still in the midst of rebuilding.

but we are also lucky that a lot of the city is ok and other parts are on the road to recovery.
despite getting water in it they expect lp field to be repaired and ready to host the country music festival next month
a lot of our downtown is already back in business.
a lot of our major industries are fine though there is havoc with some of the shipping depots ect..

still grateful that so many people were rescued.
spent a large part of sunday watching tv as person after person was rescued.
a lot of times local tv get slammed for some of the stuff they do (often deserved) but during this they took a lot of risks in getting out not just to report but to show were people needed help.

spocked.. just curious .. is her family in williamson county??

oh and a possible sign the city isnt down and out is a bit of the quirky sense of humor came back this week when people couldnt help but laugh at the story that piranha had escaped from their tank at opry mills and were roaming the mall.

it just triggered something..
like yeah my basement is flooded and worried about my furnace but hey,, i dont have a piranha in my shoes like skechers outlet does now.

(yeah the story turned out to be not true ..)

Pookha, I'm glad you've come through this. It's a shame that this happened to Tennessee and that it didn't receive the proper coverage in the media. My prayers are with the area for a speedy recovery.

I have been in Nashville, so it is a bit weird seeing it all flooded up in the pictures. You have a nice city.

pookha, I'm so glad to hear you are doing okay. I've been watching the news, and the images are so amazing. Grand Ole Opry house flooded, whole neighborhoods underwater. :(

Thanks for the updates, and hang in there.

Stand-up comic Jerry Seinfeld will donate all proceeds from his show in Nashville on Friday to flood relief efforts, the Tennessean reports.

The sold-out show wasn't planned as a special event -- it's been on the books since well before the Cumberland River crested,12 feet above flood stage, on May 3. Now, however, proceeds will go to the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee and the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.

“This is a tough time for a great city," Seinfeld said in a statement, adding that he was happy to help.
