Green Lantern - Ryan Reynolds costume revealed!

I have confidence in his acting ability to pull off Hal Jordan...visually though to me he looks like a far better Kyle Rayner and I agree that the North American box office should be huge for "Green Lantern" next summer, at least what "Iron Man 2" did.

Why the ribbing/flayed look?
I was thinking the same thing. Maybe it'll look better onscreen, but as is I think it looks rather reptilian.

If you had a suit that was generated by the energy of a power ring, that's how I envision it would look. It would not look like simple spandex. It would not have white gloves and black pants.
Is this a standard uniform from the ring's "files" or does the user have input? Why would the ring choose any particular texture? Do energy creations really need texture? A GL could get a way with a using an energy blast to hit things and a force field to cover his body. No need for rams heads or a "uniform"

Well in the comics and I believe in the animated film "First Flight" Hal was given a "'cadet" uniform which I assume the ring projects. Then when the Green Lantern becomes an officer I believe that the ring allows the officer to imagine his own uniform specific to that Lantern's imagination.

Yes, I've been reading GL for a number of years. And the uniform's origins and qualities have changed over those years. At one time all the GLs wore the same uniform, with alterations for bodytype. They seemed be regular "clothes"and could get ripped, torn or removed. I think the first variations popped up in the 80s.

Back then a GLs training was more on the job than a boot camp or academy. Hal picked it up as he went along. When the Hal got "good enough" the Guardians showed up and clued him in on the Corps.

Ah, simpler times.

It's not bad. He actually looks like a superhero. I'm glad they didn't ugly it up, like they did with Batman and X-Men uniforms. But that guy doesn't really look like Hal Jordan to me.

Yeah, he looks more like another DC superhero, like, say...the Flash? :shifty:

Stupid Warner Bros./DC Entertainment! You put him in the wrong costume! :p

Green hair? Looks like he has green hair, and it doesn't look like it's due to green mist or green lighting.

As for the suit, I'm not blown away, but I'm not disappointed either. When I heard that the suit was going to be CGIed on and look like a living/alien thing coating his body, I was pretty impressed and my imagination went wild with what that might look like. And yes, Automan popped into my head from time to time. I can't wait to see what the actual end result will be like. Maybe the movie will feature some interesting effects that will give it a "living costume" quality.

I don't remember a cadet uniform in First Flight.

He doesn't strike me as the ideal Hal Jordan. I've had Dennis Quaid stuck in my head for years. :o

I like it a lot. Love the suit, will be something different at least to your usual affair.

There's something very Will Ferrell-esque about his looks. I dunno, I think they should have gone for more of the square jawed type for this particular character.

Thank you. It was bugging me so much who it reminded me of. I'm still not sold on Reynolds. He may be getting closer to the look, but he's still always a sarcastic asshole. That's why we love him, but, Hal Jordan isn't like that. He's a little more mature. Kyle Raynor, maybe...

I'm just as confused with the casting choice now as I was on day one.

.

I have the magazine. He doesn't have green hair.
Thanks. That clears that up.

It's the tall curly hair.

It's the light emanating from the ring

The only thing that I can tell up close that isn't really there is the mask.

It's like someone just used "airbrush" on photoshop. It doesn't sit like a real mask would

The rest looks like there is a real suit there, when in fact there isn't.

Been busy last night so I'm late to this discussion.

Like others I'm not instantly in love with it. The mask looks right at least.
I think the costume does need some white in it for contrast. If Sony make the red/blue Spidey costume and make it right for those films then the GL costume could be closer to the source as well.

Maybe it'll look better in motion. I remember the thread here about the Predators images that were released and a few ripped those stills up. Sure enough the creature suits looked good in motion with the right lighting. I'm hoping that is what happens with this GL suit.
