Green Lantern officially has a green light

And given that Reynolds recently co-starred with Sandra Bullock, I'm don't think age is really an issue here.

Wasn't their age difference a factor in The Proposal though?

It was acknowledged in passing, but the main issue was that she was the Boss From Hell. And faking the engagement for immigration purposes.

My point, though, was that pairing Ryan Reynolds with an older actress hardly hurt the box office. That movie made a mint!

Let's see:

Jennifer Garner will turn 38 in April (although she looks younger)
Keri Russell will turn 34 in March
Diane Kruger will turn 34 in July
Eva Green will turn 30 in July
Blake Lively will turn 23 in August

Ryan Reynolds will turn 34 in October

Of the five, Blake Lively would be the worst pick. She's just too young for the part. I've never seen her act in anything, though, so I can't speak to her level of talent.

The best pick would be Eva Green. She can portray the fiery, sometimes bitchy, sexiness of Carol Ferris, and she'd be believable as an executive at Ferris Aircraft. She'd also make a great Star Sapphire in a prospective sequel.

I'm surprised that it looks like Green Lantern is really going to get made. I hope that if this movie does well DC will keep doing other superhero movies besides Superman and Batman.

^ Ummmm - you are aware that there have been numerous superhero movies other than those two made over the past few years, aren't you?

And Rachel Nichols in G.I. Joe. :adore:
Incidentally, you may wish Rachel Nichols a Happy Birthday tomorrow. She celebrates 30.
And she loves Twitter and, so far, replies to every single message she gets. So if anyone's on Twitter and wants to send her a message she'll probably answer.
Thanks! I spend little time on Twitter; I've been following just two authors, two columnists, one classic rock band and one late-night TV person. Rachel Nichols will be my first actress.

What, you don't remember STEEL or CATWOMAN? :)

Superhero Hype passes along a blog post from visual effects supervisor Karen Goulekas:

Wow! Been a long time since I posted! But today is a day worth posting about!

Green Lantern got the official green light today! And not a second too soon - only 10 weeks out from shooting!

While it's great news we are a go - now we have to actually get our prep done in 10 weeks!
DOH!

But we have an amazing crew - so we will make it happen!
When the Australian shoot was scrapped there was trepidation given WB's history of pulling the plug on DC films at the last minute, so this is welcome news indeed.

It was reported last month that five actresses are rumored to be in the final running to play Carol Ferris: Eva Green, Keri Russell, Blake Lively, Diane Kruger, and Jennifer Garner. We should learn who gets the role very soon, along with who's playing the villains and supporting parts.

Blake Lively or Jennifer Garner get my vote.

Jon Hamm for Sinestro

well actually maybe save Jon Hamm casting for Captain America

bah! where's the delete button

You know what would be a hoot, though. If they set the film in the 1940's and it was Alan Scott's Green Lantern. I'd SEE that in an instant. That said, I haven't heard much about this--I HOPE it's Hal Jordan . . . .

Lot of blondes.

Lively's too young; the others are in the right range. I'd go with Garner, personally.
Jennifer Garner is four years older than Ryan Reynolds; I'd prefer someone the same age or slightly younger.
I don't know, I think a bit older might be a good way to go with it. She's supposed to be a high-ranking executive, after all.
