The olny way I would want to see the Kyle character in a GL production is in the first 5 minutes, where he's unceremoniously bumped off.

Because it would be insanely expensive to focus on an alien character, and as a general rule, even in a universe filled with aliens, our lead is usually human. I think most of the decision makers for this kind of stuff think it will be easier for the average person to relate to a human lead than a crazy looking alien. Why is the automatic assumption about this show that it's going to be Earth-centered and focused on the human GLs?
There will probably be plenty of aliens on the show, they'll just be supporting characters for which ever human lantern or lanterns end up being the main character or characters.^ The Green Lantern property is so much more than just the Lanterns of Sector 2814, and a TV version of the property doesn't have to be limited to those characters.

HBO Max Head of Originals Sarah Aubrey announced the series will be an origin story for two Green Lanterns at the Television Critics Association press tour. She revealed it "will span several decades and focus on the origin stories of two major Green Lanterns on Earth." It will also feature Sinestro, a longtime Green Lantern Corps villain.
The show is just starting development. Aubrey explained she is in the "early stages of talking to" producer Greg Berlanti about the project. She offered no additional details, including the identities of the two Lanterns mentioned above.
I would love to see them cast David Ramsey as John Stewart, but then only call him John Stewart and never refer to Arrow. It would be worth it just for the raging debates about whether or not he is John Diggle.
I'm still really hoping this will be a Cruz/Baz show, but with the decades spanning story it sounds like we'll have a veteran/rookie type dynamic going on which would probably rule at least one of them out.
If we just go by originals and IMDB ratings (or RT or any other rating system for TV shows) you will find that the overwhelming majority of Netflix's originals is complete throwaway garbage. Not so for HBO.Nah, we can reasonably expect HBO Max to be a lot more ambitious than the CW. They know where the future is.
I never have trouble finding something well worth viewing any time I go to Netflix. So I don't need to make up percentage estimates about what's good or bad - I could defend pulling something like "HBO's movie schedule is 90% lame stuff that's run dozens of times" and defend it as easily as you can the Netflix claim.
I'm still baffled that they went with HBO Max instead of Warners Max. HBO Max makes it sound like it's going to be an extension of HBO and limited to just their stuff, rather than a unique stand alone service based around the entire WB catalogue.HBO Max is not HBO, so I don't think we should expect HBO quality from them. For all we know they'll be dumping 90% garbage on us the way Netflix does. I think one of the saddest things about HBO Max is that it pollutes the HBO brand.
