Green Lantern (2011)

The more I see of this the better it looks.
So I wonder if there's any chance of them doing the Star Saphire thing with Blake Lively's Carol Ferris?

A fan has put the scenes and shots from the various trailers together in a chronology that probably closely approximates the narrative of the movie - so I guess this is kind of spoilerish:

Some shots there I hadn't seen, and the thing's a little light on Hammond.

Post 666 - the Number of the Beast.

Blake Lively has done an interview where she mentioned Star Sapphire is a possibility for the sequel. I'm sure that it was posted somewhere in this thread.

Looks epic! So the final battle will be in Oa itself and not some airfield hangar?
The way the recent footage really downplays the bulging head villain in favour of the cosmic destruction villain is certainly reassuring.

Looks to me like the final battle will be Earth-based, though, trying to stop the alien menace from destroying the Earth (because really what's a good pulp adventure without our hero stopping aliens from destroying the Earth)?

Worked for NuTrek.

Cool. I'm to hear that the majority of comments have been positive so far.

Yeah. Obviously some people will really dislike it - you never get unanimity - but so far, the preponderance is positive. People seem to like the actors.

I pay next to no attention to the careers of actors until they're in something that interests me - is Reynolds much of a box office draw on his own? I mean, do studios promote movies based on Reynolds starring in them?

For his comedies, yea, I think so, and whatever magazine it is that does "Sexiest Man" gave the title to Ryan Reynolds recently (Hugh Jackman won 2 or 3 years running, I believe), so, that's gotta count for something

Well then, that can't hurt.

I haven't any read at all on what the box office might be like for GL. It could be a big disappointment for WB; it could open really strong.

Thor opened at $65m with 3-D.
X-Men:FC opened at $55m with no 3-D.

The drill down analysis is that both movies sold nearly the same amount of tickets, 3-D accounts for the variance.

That tells me that the audience which is attracted to these films did not fade away or get get distracted by other movies in the market place from Thor to XM:FC. A four week gap and XM:FC to GL is only two weeks, is that a factor? Does it crowd the fanbase? We'll know soon enough.

Therefore using that benchmark for this summer alone I'd say if GL can land around Thor's numbers for OW it's good. Ideally WB would like it higher cause they spent more on it than Marvel did Thor. Anything less than $55m is going to throw up alarm bells I think.

Yeah, I'd think that it needs to do something like that. I'm sure we'll start to hear studio expectations floated in the next week or so - if they're saying that fifty-something would be "a solid opening" you'll know that they're actually expecting and hoping for better than that.

They've merchandised the fuck out of this thing.
