Green Arrow (CW)

Katie Cassidy talked about her character and Black Canary in a recent interview. Blastr story. It doesn't sound like she'll be taking on the identity any time soon, but she doesn't rule it out completely.

Well I thought it was pretty solid for a premiere episode. Didnt like that he let people see his face so well. The green paint doesnt really cover anything up. But all in all fairly decent and much better than the first Smallville. Of course Luthor mansion was there and still looks good.

20 seconds in and I had a serious fangasm seeing Slades hat on the beach.

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck.

Hatley Castle?

That's just fucking lazy.

Of course Luthor mansion was there and still looks good.

I have to admit that scene made my day. :)

A lot angstier than the guy we got to know on Smallville. I think Ollie got a bit a Batman/Bruce Wayne applied.

I'm not too sure what to make of it just yet. Not a bad start but not a home run either and I see a risk of being simply mediocre but I'll give it more chances before declaring final judgment.

They're using (the tv series) Revenge as a template, which seems smart.

Gives Ollie something to do other than waiting in alleys for muggers and drug dealers.

So... Was that Dinosaur Island from DC Comic?

[Andrew Dice Clay]Lost? I Fucked it.[/Andrew Dice Clay]

Hehe, Speedy's still hooked on drugs.

Not a bad first episode, definitely could have benefited from being 2 hours instead of one.

They should ditch the voiceover. Amell doesn't really have a good voiceover voice. Other than that it was one of the better pilots I've seen so far this season.

He's no Tom Welling, but still... I need some sort of proof that the meat between his ears isn't complete gristle.

Did you see him in the promos leading up to the new season?

BTS, the actor just kept screaming "SHIRTLESS!" as loud and often as he could over and over again.

Some serious self esteem issues.

I don't watch a lot of tv shows these days, but I caught this episode on Hulu. Its a great looking series, a little too much like origins of Batman or Iron Man mashed together, but I'll need to see more.

Batman and green arrow do have a lot in common but batman came out firstand then green arrow and then iron man. The pilot was fantastic I can't wait till we see dianha sonic scream. Loved how they through the name speedy out there very cool :) I am hooled on tthis now can't wait till next week :)

Eh, it just never really grabbed me. It basically felt like Batman Begins.... only with a generic soap opera hunk in place of the excellent Christian Bale. And instead of watching the creation of something as iconic as Batman... we're just watching a guy running around with a freakin bow and arrow.

No matter how much they tried to build up the mystery and mythology, it all just felt a bit silly to me. And the fact the main actor is a complete stiff certainly doesn't help.

I enjoyed the episode, and I'll keep watching. My pros/cons

pros:
interesting story

good action

not too much drama

it wasn't really slow, like Smallville could be

the story overall was cool, I like the premise and the scene with Oliver's dad on the raft was well done

the reveal at the end was cool

Cons:
GA is a remorseless killer

Laurel Lance, really? You can call her Dinah, people won't get her confused with Smallville's Black Canary. If you can call GA Oliver Queen, then you can call BC Dinah. I can't think of any other reason they'd call her Laurel, its a really stupid name (even if it is BC's middle name), and it seems like it was changed just to be different. One of the characters (Merlyn) called her Dinah Laurel Lance, so that is her name on the show, they just call her by her annoying middle name. They probably just kept Dinah her first name so that comic fans didn't get angry.

Besides that, its weird that Ollie has a sister, but at this point is not a pro or a con. Seeing Deathstroke's mask was cool.I'm interested in seeing what comes next, and

Well she was a demon killing "superhero" on Supernatural,

She does a lot of kung fu, beheadings and lays down the law.

Maybe they got the fix you need on netflix?

I thought the pilot was great. One of the best of the new season. I wasn't expecting much from this (I was thinking Smallville 2.0 basically), but it turned out to be a pleasant surprise and actually quite well-made and exciting.

I loved all the little call-outs to Green Arrow lore (Speedy, Dinah Lance, Drakon, Merlyn, Walter Steele, the Deathstroke mask with an arrow through the eye, and more coming soon) and to the people who have made Green Arrow in the past (Diggle and D. DiDio (on the lawsuit plaintiff list)).

They certainly didn't try and lighten the mood at all for primetime. Ollie is basically one step away from being Dexter rather than being closer to a Smallville-type CW character. He coldly executes men he's already subdued just so he can't identify him, and kills entire teams of bodyguards while inexplicably leaving the actual big bad alive. The menace with which he confronted Steele over dinner for sleeping with his mom conveyed that this is a guy full of barely restrained rage. The scene with Ollie's father, hapless passenger, and Ollie in the life raft was intense.

I also like that they've left some mystery about the goings-on on the island to be meted out over time. Clearly he had the opportunity to fashion complex weapons, confront enemies, learn Russian (unless he learned it from the maid Rayza/female Alfred in secret) and plot his revenge Monte Christo-style.

I'm definitely looking forward to what else they have in store on the show.
