Greater Than the Sum the next book after Before Dishonor...

Why the long wait time? If it is due out in August, that is 8 months away. Will that be the only book in the timeline between Before Dishonor and GTTS for TNG?

Because Pocket has other ST books to publish as well.

Re: Greater Than the Sum the next book after Before Dishonor

We got three TNG books in a row this year because it's the 20th anniversary of TNG. That was a special event. Under normal circumstances, no Trek book series has books coming out on anywhere near a monthly basis. One per year or so is more typical.

Actually we've more or less got four next year, because after GTTS in August comes the Destiny trilogy in Oct-Dec, and although that's a mix of elements from multiple 24th-century series, TNG is one of the most heavily featured series.

In fact, GTTS was written on a pretty tight deadline. It's coming out about as soon as it could without compromising quality.

And yes, GTTS is the next post-Nemesis TNG novel following Before Dishonor, and it leads into Destiny. However, in the interim, there are several installments of the TNG Slings and Arrows eBook series still to come, and there are probably TNG-based tales in the Mirror Universe: Shards and Shadows anthology and the Myriad Universes duology.

That's nowhere near as bad as the wait between the last DS9 book (March '06) and the next one (July '08). Or for that matter the last two books in the TOS Rihansuu series (Oct. '00 - Dec. '06).

Or the Voyager relaunch books, whenever they'll be coming out.

Or New Frontier.

That's the one problem with current Trek Literature. There are too many series, causing everyone to wait so long for their respective series.

(Yeah, yeah, I know. Other series like Harry Potter, Ringworld, Earthsea, etc. waited MUCH longer but you get my point.)

I'm jealous of anyone who reads all ST but has no ST backlog. I used to be absolutely current with ST books until "Mission: Gamma" coincided with the loss of my four-hour per day commute to/from work. I've never caught up, or looked like getting close, not even when the release schedule was pared back.

It amazes me that people complain they have "nothing" to read between instalments. (I also remember in the early 1980s when I used to have the luxury of re-reading old favourites during the eight-month gaps between ST releases. I also remember the sheer joy of finding Larry Niven's "Known Space" stuff with the kzinti, which was like supplementing my hunger for new TAS.)

Re: Greater Than the Sum the next book after Before Dishonor

Oh, I agree completely. Star Trek books (especially in the last few years) have been low on my pecking order. I read all sorts of books in between the Star Trek books, so it's not a big deal for me (although I do miss New Frontier books on a regular basis).

I am a TNG hardcore reader. I don't read TOS or anything else, although I have read a lot of the NF books but they just didn't do it for me. I am going to start the Titan series and pick up somewhere in SCE to pacify me.

Long live TNG books, I wish they were out every month.

Don't forget the Slings and Arrows ebook TNG series. It's out now and more to come.
