Great Moments: Data / Worf

Star Treks

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
Ninth in a series of threads asking TNG fans to name their favorite episodes, scenes, moments, or lines between two main TNG characters. I am putting forward the view that every main character pairing in TNG has at least one (and almost certainly more than one) great moment among its 178 episodes.

Today, it's Data and Worf. One gets the impression, especially early in the series, that Worf was never completely comfortable around Data, and in many ways they are practically opposites. Yet when it came down to it they usually had each other's back.

What are your favorite moments of interaction between Worf and Data?

The ready room scene (where Data dresses down Worf) in Gambit pt 2 is the greatest Worf/Data scene in TNG. A great character moment for Data.

"I am sorry if I have ended our friendship..."

Great scene, Fantastic execution. Data pulling the "picard manouever" with his shirt takes it over the top. Brilliant.

Lot of good ones.

I like when Data is trying to draw Worf out of his shell because, as we later learn, he's preoccupied with his rite of ascension. He gets mad when he hears Wesley's name mentioned, then says to Data, "With all due respect . . . BEGONE! Sir." Cracks me up every time. Don't remember the name of the ep, so someone help me out, please.

In Parallels, there's another funny moment when Worf is asking how his relationship with the alternate Troi began, and he says, "And then we mated." Data replies, literally as usual, that he's not "privy to the exact time of that event, but I can do some research."

In The Naked Now, Data is recalling a dirty limerick he overhears on the intercom, when Picard cuts him off. Worf turns to Data and says, "I don't understand their humor either."

In The Last Outpost, Data explains how the Ferengi might be like the Yankee Traders of Riker's forebears, and mentions how he doubts they look like Uncle Sam, and a perplexed Worf asks, "Uncle Who?"

Thats the first one that came to mind for me as well.

My favorite though is the interaction between Worf and "Posessed" Data in ten forward in the episode
where Troi, Data and O'Brien are taken over by the beings in the storm on the planet and take hostages.

Power Play. Yes, I liked that too. Although that wasn't really Data. But there is a scene in the end of the episode:
Data: "I must apologize for my inadvertant misconduct toward you, Lieutenant."
Worf: "There is no need to apologize."
Data: "Your restraint was most remarkable for a Klingon."
Worf: "You have no idea."
I actually wanted Worf to hit "Data", so that "Data" could beat him. It would be interesting to see their fight.

They had interesting relationship. Sometimes they were friends.
I liked their scenes in Gambit very much. Especially the ready room, that was already mentioned.

And there was also a scene in In Theory where Worf warnes Data about his gilfriend, Jenna.

And of course, when Worf says to Data: "With all due respect . . . BEGONE! Sir." It's in the episode The Icarus Factor.

pen pals.

dorn's delivery in this scene is priceless.

DATA
Those signals are very faint and
difficult to distinguish from
background noise, which is why
I am boosting the power.

Worf starts back to his station, crashes into a pile
of isolinear chips, and almost takes a header over the
control board.

DATA
(continuing)
I will be removing this equipment
to my quarters.

Worf is not happy. He glowers, and snarls out:

WORF
Good!

Here's one no one's mentioned, though it's not exactly my favorite: In Birthright 1 when Data goes to Worf to discuss his first dream, and Worf goes on about how important it is to have a vision of one's father.

Also, the vast majority of the episode "A Fistful of Datas," though that isn't really Data in the holodeck.
