Graphene, New Wonder Material

Ar-Pharazon,

I would assume so. Especially if it could be rolled up like a scroll, you could make tubes and fibers out of it so yeah, you could lay a bunch of them up together or weave them in together and make a substance like kevlar.

I could imagine that substance being hazardous though if not handled right, could you imagine how easily that could slice and dice?

Shades of the molecular assassin's wire in Johnny Mnemonic.

Peter the Younger,

I never saw "Johnny Mnemonic". What was the molecular assassin's wire?

A wire with such a small cross section and tensile strength that you could cut a person in two and they wouldn't realize it untill they fell in half.

I was wondering if it could be made dimensionally thicker than they described, like an inch or two thick. Or, like you said, layer it to create a kind of ablative armor. It could replace depleted uranium on tanks, if it were stronger than that of course.

Wait a minute, it says:

Graphite, the lead in a pencil, is made of stacks of graphene layers.

and yet my pencils always break.

Doesn't seem that tough to me.

Stacks of graphene are a bit like stacks of dinner plates. You can easily break up the stack by removing some of the plates, but the plates themselves are pretty tough.

Plus, you could use the tank to write "TERRORISTS SUXORS" with the world's most kickass pencil.
