Hah, I totally forgot that I'm one of two people who sits close to their monitor and plays their console games like PC games.

One of three.

I have my 360 connected to my 22" widescreen monitor and I sit about 1 foot away from it. Hey, it's bigger than my TV.

I'm having a ball with this game, but I'm sick of being on a mission and having to accept in invatation to go drinking/bowling/playing darts/whatever and to cancel it right away.

"What's that Michelle? A date?! Hold on..."
*bang* *bang* *bang*
"Sure. See you in an hour."
*bang* *bang* *bang*
"Hey! Vlad says 'Hi!'"
(call Michelle back.)
"Sorry..."
*screech*.... *crash* ... *police sirens*
"Can't make our date! Hard day at work!"

But a lot of fun. I'm still on the first island, haven't made a lot of progression with the missions because I keep getting side-tracked in both the game and in real life.

I did awesomely wreck a car recently by completely smashing-in the rear-quarter turning the car into a trapezoid. Being a rear-wheel drive car (looked like a 50s Thunderbird of Farlane) it didn't drive to well after that.

You can put the phone into silent mode, you know...

It's real helpful when you just want to roam around and check out the city, find weapon pickups, etc. Otherwise you do run the risk of affecting your rep if you don't jump right on their requests.

This thread makes this game sound better and better. Maybe it is time to pick it up this week.

But silent mode is not the same as not answering and doesn't affect your rep.

Did not know that.

Silent mode just stops the story side of the game. I don't think you can do missions or anything while it is switched on.

Correct, it's for free roaming without advancing the story or any missions. I'm not sure what would happen if you tried it during the middle of a mission. I suspect it would either not allow you to turn it off, or it would it cause you to immediately fail the mission, but I don't know for sure.

I might have to try that just to see what would happen.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who has trouble with some of the missions. I'm terrible on some of these, especially if it involves chasing on motorcycles. That mission where you have to chase down Faustin's daughter's boyfriend took me several tries. When I finally did beat it, it was with the help of the cops.

I got their attention while trying to shoot the gang on the last stretch before they get off their bikes. Some of the gang members were firing at me, and the rest turned their attention to the cops. After I picked off the last one, who had killed at least one cop hiding on the other side of the car, the cops just ignored me. Guess they appreciated the help.

Thanks to the physics engine, I got an easy pass on the mission where you kill Lenny. After he got into a car, I sprayed some shots from an Uzi in his general direction. I didn't think I hit him, but when I turned to steal a car to chase him, the mission completed. Turns out when I fired, he got into a wreck. His car flipped over and he died.

The friends needing attention is starting to get a little annoying. I'm not too far into the game, but it seems like I'm constantly having to accept or decline an invitation to go somewhere. Often times while I'm driving to go hang out with a different character.

Still need to check out the multi-player.

I love the damage detailing in this game. Last night I launched off a three-stage stunt jump, coming off the third one at reduced speed, landing head-first on the hood of another car. My vehicle left a very satisfying and distinctive impression. :D

I wish I just knew what kind of music was on each station. It doesn't even say in the manual.

What should I listen to if I just want some soft rock?

Liberty City Rock has all the ELO, Heart, and Stevie Nicks you'll ever need!

One of my few disappointments with GTA IV so far has been the soundtrack. Remember how awesome Vice City's authentic 80s soundtrack was? The stations in IV do not seem so clearly defined. They all play samey sounding music.

I listen to the talk radio and rock stations mostly in GTA games. In IV, the AOR is lumped in with some of the heavier stuff (Black Sabbath, Thin Lizzy, Iggy Pop, etc). And I really miss when Lazlow got a radio station all of his own (Chatterbox ruled).

But other than the soundtrack, the game is superb.

Yeah, the soundtrack isn't all that great. I miss the original songs too from GTA3 rather than a soundtrack mostly filled with real songs.

I'm getting my assed kicked in the mission where you have to go to Faustin's cabarett and kill him only to get ambushed by a bunch of guys with Uzis. When I follow him into the backroom I get my assed owned, I can't figure out where he goes, and eventually he "gets away" from me even though it seems his icon on the RADAR is right next to me. :sigh:

I suck at heavy shooting missions because I suck at this combat system and I've yet to master the cover system. Oh well, I'm sure I'll get it sooner or later.

Little Jacob finally got me to turn on the subtitles and I still don't understand a damn thing he is saying to me! I went out drinking with him and in the process he got hit by a car while we were trying to get a cab. I tried calling an ambulance for him but, apparently, you can't call it for other people. So I took his money and ran off, eventually he apparently got to the hospital and called for me to pick him up.

Brucie is a Grade-A db, but still funny.

Still having a blast with this game, though.

Yeah, I had some trouble with that mission too. When Faustin runs out of the bar, follow him immediately. Just run and try and ignore the fact that guys are shooting at you - most of them will miss.

Before you get through the door, from memory, two guys will burst out of it. You should be able to knock them out pretty quickly.

Then once you're in the back area, turn left and head straight on to the next door, which will lead you outside. There'll be some dudes in your way, but don't worry about stopping and taking cover and shooting - it's too fiddly. Just sprint right through and kept shooting and you should be fine.

Faustin will be on the roof of the building, up a few flights of stairs. Once you kill him, the mission is over, the game saves, and you're safe.

And make sure you've got full health and body armour (from the weapons shop), and a decent weapon, before you try it too.

Picked this one up last week at the urging of a friend - despite having several other games that I haven't gotten through yet.

Michelle likes me quite a bit so far, kicks my ass in bowling, doesn't wonder why I pick her up in a different car each date...she's swell! I've only gotten just a bit into it, but it's a pretty impressive cityscape. Good tip on the silent mode for the phone. I haven't gotten far in, but I already noticed that the phone ringing right when I'm picking up Michelle can be a hassle.
