I had the same problem on that mission. I did manage to pick something up but it was just a paper cup, and that did not break the window and I then couldn't find the brick that I was suppose to pick up so I just broke the window with my pistol.
I've heard other people say that and I haven't had any issues at all driving at night with no lights. I can drive at night but can't see the text messages, and you can see the text messages just fine, but night driving without headlights is a problem. How bizzare, it just amazes me how differently this game renders itself on different TVs.
Where pray tell do you do that at?
Ok, and how would one go about that? Is this something you can do the original phone? I ask that because I understand that at some point in the game, you get an upgraded model. So I'm wondering if this might not be possible with the original phone.

Well it appears that GTA:4 did not negatively impact the Iron Man opening as some media outlets had predicted. Meh I don't get the fascination with this game anyway.
Thanks. The first chance I get, I'll see what I can turn up at the internet cafe. I've been there several times getting car missions from Brucie, but I've never really spent anytime browsing the web there.
Thanks! I'm going to give that a try. If I can change to a different color or different background, I think that will solve my problem.
Did the game not give you the tutorial?
L1 (the top left shoulder button) picks up objects. But you've practicaly got to be standing on them to do it and it has to be a pick-upable object.
Imagine that. Driving at night without healights is hard.
I had to turn the brightness all the way up on both the game and TV to see things well, and fool with the contrast too.
Thing is just because a TV looks "good" doesn't mean it's correctly calibrated. Different TV's can also handle different inputs differently.
Personally, I haven't had a huge issue driving at nights even with my headlights out. Sure, it's a bit harder, but all the other cars have lights too. Also I've noticed a few times I'll have blown my lights but my brights will still be working and I can flick them on and off... until I hit something again, at least No issues reading the text on the phone either (and I just got the fancy new phone last night as well).

Oh well, I guess I'll be getting out of my chair to read text messages for awhile.
Hah, I totally forgot that I'm one of two people who sits close to their monitor and plays their console games like PC games.

Interesting responses, I can play at night with no problem. Smashing the headlights is merely a cosmetic thing to my gameplay generally.
