Will you buy Grand Theft Auto IV?

I spoke to someone in a Games store about a PC release as I was going to wait for that as I can't afford to go buy a PS3 or XBox just for the one game and they said that the PC requirements would be high end specs, possible a lot more high end than my current specs:

1GB Ram, 250MB Graphics (I think, I'm guessing just now cause I don't know off the top of head) ATI Radeon.

Any ideas what the PC requriement will be and if I may need to upgrade my PC? Of course saying that if I do need to upgrade it'd probably work out cheaper to buy a PS3 or XBox.

I would not guess at the system requirements until closer to the release date.

A German retailer is giving a late November 2008 release date for a PC version.

I guess it depends on who does the port and whether or not it's optimized or scalable.
Assassin's Creed on PC? A total mess. Mass Effect on PC? Will run on a PC that's 3 years old.

Just called my local Best Buy where I pre-ordered my copy. No midnight launch (which is okay I don't want it that bad) and not opening early tomorrow. Dammit. They'll open at 10 and it will probably be a zoo.

If you have a computer that can play Mass Effect or Assassin's Creed you will probably be able to play gta4

I'll no doubt be playing it on and off, although the moment somebody asks me to demolish a building using a remote control helicopter to drop sticks of dynamite into trash cans, I'm done.

Stupid question, but is the "midnight release" tonight or tomorrow night?

Tonight/Tomorrow Morning. Since the game is released tomorrow, I don't think a midnight release (going into Wednesday) would be all that great an idea.

I, personally, look forward to countless missions of driving girlfriends and thugs around the town.

I picked a hell of a time to only have a Wii and no other game system.

Well, Mario Kart is sort of fun. And if GTA IV ever gets produced for the Wii, I already have the steering wheel for it...

Sorry. Couldn't resist.

GTA IV for the W:lol::lol::lol::lol:ii:lol::lol::lol:

The Wii doesn't have *nearly* the horsepower to do it. Look, I like the Wii, I have one. But it's not running GTA-anything, ever. Well, maybe 1 and 2 should they ever, somehow, show up on Virtual Console.

Oh dear.....remember all the fuss that was kicked up when H3 was found to be not running a 720p.....well its about to kick up again but this time its the PS3 turn, and the game in question is GTAIV.......seem the 360 version is running as 720p but the PS3 version is running at 630p.......

There will be blood....

First of all, is that even possible?

Second of all, with a little searching on the gamefaqs.com forums, the consensus seems to be that is a BS story.

I would stick with Neogaf, the guy who found the H3 is the same one who found this one, very respected over there so no reason why he should be BS people.

Who gives a shit? The console obsession with framebuffer resolution is truly bizarre, and driven almost entirely by the marketing departments at Sony and Microsoft. Resolution is but one technical factor amongst many that influences the performance and aesthetic qualities of a game, and it's no more important than any other. One can run Quake III at five or six times the resolution marketroids have decided to call "Full HD", yet it still looks like Quake III. Likewise with a sufficiently powerful system you can crack over 1000fps in World of Warcraft, or fiddle with the settings and run Crysis on the same system at 10fps. It's meaningless. The "thou shalt render at 720p or above" attitude does nothing but impose unneccessary limitations on developers, which from the above they're apparently quite wisely choosing to ignore. Why not "thou shalt use 8x anisotropic filtering"? Maybe because there's no convenient marketing label like "HD" for that.

Given that it's taken this long for someone to notice that PS3 isn't rendering GTAIV at 720p, and that most reviews seem to be giving the PS3 version the graphical edge over the X360 version, I would think those factors taken together provide something of an indication as to how meaningless and contrived this "HD" business actually is.

*shudder* Worst. Mission. Ever.

Absolutely. That's what killed Vice City for me, and San Andreas wasn't any better either. A lot of GTA's mission design is often so unnecessarily frustrating that I find myself doing nothing but messing around in the sandbox until I get bored and never pick the games up again. Unless GTAIV has improved these issues significantly, I have a feeling the Mercenaries will remain my favourite open-world game. Now there's an enjoyable mission structure for you.
