A- based on Mayweather given more to say than "Yes, Captain," and we'll probably never hear him say more than a few words per episode in this series ever again.

This was the tightest, best-written, most believeable episode of the series BY FAR to date, and all fans can do is complain.

I simply cannot decide between C+ or B-. It was good to see a Travis episode, yes. The music was better, still extranious in places. I actually liked the B-plot - the crew actually had fun on the ship!! The Horizon was pretty interesting to see, especially the inner workings of the 'old Earth ship' ... but the space battle was stupid. I HATE FOREHEAD-ALIENS-OF-THE-WEEK ... AND five-minute endings. I didn't really understand the supposed 'mission' they were on, but at least they're trying to give the show some sort of mission... I dunno. "The Breach" looks equally as inconclusive. 
A B, would have gave it B+ if it werent for that annoying plot hole

It is definitely better than most of the episodes this season.
It was nice seeing some stuff on Travis.
Although I didn't care for the Frankenstein movie thing. It reminded me of the holodeck scenes of Paris and Kim on Voyager. I always thought those were bad and filler when the writers didn't have any other clues of things to write about.

Lots of heartfelt moments in the Mayweather family, believable and intelligent dialoge about Travis' father when first in command, cute B-plot that hints at a love triangle between Archer/T'Pol/Tucker, short but sweet CGI and action, and very emotive music. Yes, the ending was short (again), but that's more of a compliment to the show--we wanted 10 minutes more!

Horizon was one of those touching episodes that come along to give insight in a character that doesn't get that much screen time. I gave it a B+ for the simple fact that I liked Anthony's acting. This episode is not strong, but it isn't a "filler". There are twenty-six episodes a year. It doesn't hurt to tell a story regarding family once in awhile.

I liked Horizon a lot because it was one of those Star Trek episodes that brought us very close to a situation that we can all identify with. When Mayweather was talking about not calling his dad enough, I was ticking off in my mind just how many times in the last month I've bothered to call my 83 year old mom. Family relationships are always tough as we grow up and apart. This episode showed it well.
On a lighter side, since I'm a strong Archer/T'Pol shipper, this episode had some cute moments as well. The best when T'Pol did a repeat of her Carbon Creek act, and took the 'boys' for a ride on the Vulcan version of 'and if you believe that one, I've got a big bridge to sell you.'

Pretty good episode. I was blown away by the music! Sheesh, did Berman take thae week off? How the hell did he let such emotive and powerful music get played in Trek? The FX was good.
Unfortunately the set up was better than the resolution - which seems to be the pattern w/ ENT more or less. We got great glimpses into Travis' life, but then the episode quickly slides into a formulaic ending that we've all seen before. I really think this episodic format is hurting ENT's potential for great stories. This could've been a 3-part arc that really took chances, explored these bad guys goin after freighters (why couldn't they have been Orion pirates?) and given the ENT crew more to do than sit around and watch movies.
Bottom line, good episode but tons of unrealized potential for a larger more intriguing storyline.

The scenes between Travis and Archer were all excellent. And both Anthony and Scott touched all the right notes of intensity and subtlety when the Captain sought out his helmsman to offer support and condoloence and Travis expressed his grief. This was genuine and heartflet acting folks. And the chemistry between Bakula and Montgomery is quite palpable.
I also really loved the scenes between Travis and his Mom. The woman who played Mrs. Mayweather was certainly a dignified and assured actress. And as old as the story is, the tension and eventual reconciliation between the two brothers was very well done indeed.
In short, I liked this episode A!

Some thoughts:
- I'm surprised at the reaction here. This was a very solid episode. Then again, I liked Fortunate as well. I've enjoyed these episodes giving us a peak at cargo ship life and how much they're on their own.
- Acting all around was pretty decent. I liked how this was also about his brother's growth as a captain. Montgomery shines for the most part. The guest crew of the Horizon were all pretty good too. A bit melodramatic at times, but par for the course of the kind of story being told.
- The visual effects were great as always and I was pleasantly surprised by the impromptu space battle at the end. I liked how the warp-sled "tractor" broke away and we finally see Travis' piloting skills in action. However, the pirate ship is a familiar design from Voyager that is starting to become the latest "see-it-everywhere" design.
- The B-story was alright, but was another B-story that was totally unrelated to the main story both in theme and tone. The science mission even took a backseat to the movie night story and the lifeform part of the planet gets a little line but nothing more like something was cut (cripes, how short can they make these episodes?). However, I liked Phlox's take on "real-life" re-animation.

I went with a solid C for Horizon.
Personally, I felt that the actor who played Travis' brother had more emotion that Travis himself. Same with his mother. The scene with Archer could've been better. It just didn't feel as heart-breaking as a plot like this should.
I enjoyed the B plot with T'Pol, but I thought it was heading in a very different direction that what it turned out to be. It looked like Trip and Archer were practically vying for T'Pol's attention. Trip keeps inviting her, then Archer says she can be his "date." I figured that was where it was heading, but I guess I got my signals crossed.
The episode wasn't bad. It was just average.
