Gotham - Season 1

This week's "Lovecraft" was really good. Some terrific writing. Like when a scene starts with Falcone brutally gunning down a lieutenant in front of his other lieutenants and then says, "Let me give you some context."

That was probably a reference to when Al Capone killed on of his lieutenants with a baseball bat during a dinner.

So that wasn't just a creation for the Untouchables film with Costner and De Niro?

I had read that it actually happened, but of course nobody vould pin it on Capone.

My point wasn't about the mobster killing a lieutenant -- that's routine stuff for mobster stories. What was clever was the dialogue. BANG! "Let me give you some context." That's hilarious.

I was surprised Penguin wasn't in this as much as I thought he was going to be for a fall finale, but I think Alfred just took over as the star of the show. He made this episode great, and Sean Partwee is doing a great job in the role. Heck, he may become my favorite Alfred of all the Batmans I've seen.

Overall, I enjoyed this, but for a fall finale, the urgency seemed to lack a little bit. It felt like just another episode, and I was expecting a bit of a cliffhanger and didn't really get one. Still, I'm glad I'm back watching this show. It really did turn around starting with Episode 6 and it's become a great show.

I don't know... the brain trust behind this show is pulling all the right levers as far as I'm concerned. It's not even my favorite show, and yet I look forward to seeing where it goes next.

"The" Penguin, hey? Can't wait. Kissed the Kat? COOL. Alfred finally emoting convincingly and being bad ass... nice!

Next up: Arkham.

Batman--continue napping.

Jake was playing a character called "Jim Corbin" on Scorpion.

I must admit that I did a spit take when I first heard that name thinking It was Jim Gordon.

Alfred was pretty awesome throughout this. Being a badass soldier is pretty much par for the course for Alfred in modern portrayals, but I love the way he totally played Fish Mooney by flirting with her...
It's been building for a while, and of course they are doing it on purpose, but this episode left me certain that in his previous job his designation began with "00." He even reminds me of a much older Daniel Craig.

Oh, one other thing I liked was that when Bruce was reunited with Alfred, he did "the Picard Maneuver" -- pulled down on the hem of his shirt to straighten it out. Nice little character touch.

It is part of Alfred's backstory in the comics and several adaptations that he was a member of MI6.

Daniel is currently 4 years younger than Sean, however I guess your mental snapshot of Daniel is from Casino Royale or earlier.

That, yes, and also Sean has a bit more weathered face and probably seems older to me.

It was Chris pointing out the flirting that sealed it for me. Anyone can be a ruthless badass with a gun and knife and some judo and a British accent. But how many could seduce Fish?

Ivy is one freaky girl :eek::eek:

Alfred in battle was so fucking cool :techman: It's more than clear after this that he can handle Bruce's early training. Fish is overplaying her hand so much I can't see her finishing the season alive, which is a pity because Jada Pinkett Smith plays her well.

I believe when the part was in casting, Alfred's past was said to be in the Royal Marines. Though I do rather enjoy the notion that Batman was raised by this world's equivalent of James Bond.

That would be the perfect exit for Selina Kyle. I don't see any need for further interaction until the two of them are adults. She is the childhood crush that literally got away.

How long until crazy Ivy shows up at Wayne Manor?

I really enjoyed seeing characters getting changed up; Bruce out in the city on the run with Selina. Alfred interacting with Bullock and Fish.

I also really liked the scene where Selina was talking with Ivy, I liked that interaction. She knows her and is vaguely friendly with her but also is wary of her.
