Gorshin--Emmy nom?

Somebody could always look at the daily production reports in the Robert Justman papers at UCLA. They should list every actor involved. Has Vetri gone by any other names?

Angela Dorian was the name she used as a Playboy Playmate and in Rosemary's Baby.

I'm sure MLK praised Cosby and Greg Morris for Mission: Impossible, but Star Trek was more notable for portraying a future with his ideals.

More notable? Only to Star Trek fans. Nichelle made a difference to individuals who followed the series. Bill Cosby made a difference to the industry in general. His three consecutive Emmy wins (when only one would have been historical enough) broke down more racial barriers than Star Trek ever dreamed.

I Spy, when it was created, set out to promote racial equality, from before a single frame was shot. Conversely, The Cage didn't have one solitary black cast member (only the non-speaking Asian in the transporter room represented non-Caucasians). I Spy said "equality was possible and correct RIGHT NOW." Star Trek said "black women will have equality...in the future." Luckily, characters like Commodore Stone and Richard Daystrom showed blacks in positions of power and esteem. In fact, I think that was an even more powerful message.

Funny, I Spy and Mission Impossible didn't need to resort to couching it in fantasy Sci-Fi to press home the point.

I have comprehensive exams in two weeks, and have to finish an article after that, but I'll take a look sometime in May and find out if she's listed.

I'm pretty certain you won't find Vetri/Dorian's name there, but I'm curious to find out what name is listed there. And I'm sure the guy who runs that "Assignment: Earth" fan page I linked above, the one who started the Vetri rumor in the first place, would want to be informed if you find the real performer's name, since he says on his page that he hopes to learn more and includes a mailing link. So hopefully with your help we can get this cleared up.

I'll have boxes 6, 7, 18, 27, and 32 if anyone else wants me to look something up while I'm there.

Come to think of it, it's never been verified who wrote the songs in "The Way to Eden." So if you could find some credits for that, both music and lyrics (which might be by separate people), that'd be awesome.

It looks like episode specific files are in boxes 23 & 34, which I won't have access to today, but I'll keep an eye out for it in the future. I don't recall anything about the songs in the music folder (box 35).

I think this is what we're interested in, regarding "Assignment: Earth"...

Box 32 , Folder 23 Production Materials: Credits Breakdown (3), Stock Footage Breakdowns (25), Dubbing Schedule (1), Cast List (2), Daily Production Reports (6), Call Sheet (6), Vault Transporter Sequences (3), Automated Dialogue Dubbing Cue Sheets (6). Total Items:52

The call sheets might well be more useful here, because they list who has to be called to the set for each day of shooting. So they might include extras who don't get listed as part of the credited cast.

Unfortunately, the UCLA files aren't much help on the Vetri/Dorian question. On a budget dated December 5, 1967, the following supporting roles are listed:

Anthony Seven
Lt. David Cooke
Roberta London
Uniformed Doorman
Women Newsstand Owner
Store Owner
Detective #1
Captain Nesvig
Army Sergeant
Colonel Cromwell
News Broadcaster
1st Guard
2nd Guard
Now, this isn't the budget for the final draft of the script (reflected by the temporary name change of Anthony Seven, among other things), but it doesn't list any character resembling Isis in human form as she appears in the final episode.

The Daily Production Reports from the episode are also of little help. The actress who plays Isis in her human form is probably one of the performers listed as "atmosphere and stand-ins," but these, alas, are not identified by name and, for the most part, are not even identified by role.

There ARE dozens of memos related to the episode in the collection, however, some of which relate to casting. Perhaps one of these will indicate who the performer in question is. I have little doubt that it is not Vetri, however. I rather doubt she would be appearing in an "atmosphere" part at this stage of her career.

And before my laptop battery dies, I also looked at the cast list in question. No dice.

Beyond the seven regulars, it lists:

(GARY SEVEN) ROBERT LANSING
(ROBERTA LONDON) TERRI GARR
(SECURITY CHEIF) PAUL BAXLEY
(1ST POLICEMAN) BRUCE MARS
(2ND POLICEMAN) TED GEHRING
(SERGEANT) LINCOLN DEMYAN
(NESVIG) MORGAN JONES
(CROMWELL) DON KEEFER

In the summer of 1985, I traveled to LA to try out for Jeopardy!, which was then at the end of its first Trebek year - didn't get on because they were overtly looking for female contestants - and also to research George Duning's music for "The Empath" and "Is There in Truth No Beauty?"; I had written to him in 1980 and he wrote back, saying all files related to his Trek work were at the USC library - and indeed they were, including a great deal of ancillary material such as call sheets, spring 1968 memo exchanges about script problems (some of which were early enough to involve Roddenberry), etc., in addition to the music cue sheets. Because I hardly ever get to California, I have no idea whether USC still hosts this collection, nor whether it includes material related to non-Duning episodes, but it might be worth a look to whoever is not finding what they want at UCLA. Has anyone here seen the USC material, if it's still there?

They certainly have Ronald D. Moore's files from his time on Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. Not sure what they have relating to Star Trek, though.
