Wouldn't it have been easier if they had rigged up an elevator that would lower him down instead of him having to crouch down and then lie flat down at the end. I can imagine the scene of hysterics after it wondering at what teh actual scene would be like.

You have to remember, they were running very low on budget towards the end of the 10 part finale. The producers even had to reuse stock footage from previous episodes. A temporary elevator rig would probably have bankrupt them!
