Good "Twist" Novels

No, no, I'm not asking about Trek lit featuring Lt. Ch'ubby Checker. I'm looking for novels that have a really great twist - something you don't see coming that turns the story on it's end. Anything like that out there?

"TOS: The Entropy Effect", but perhaps 'cos it was first original Pocket ST novel.

"TNG: Immortal Coil" was a great whodunit.

"DS9: Fallen Heroes" - I couldn't work out how they'd fix it.

"NF: Stone and Anvil" - another whodunit - I just didn't want to admit I knew whodunit.

And, good for a laugh: "Death's Angel" (Bantam). As silly as the book was, the whodunit was hard to pick.

I actually thought The Entropy Effect was a pretty standard, predictable, cop-out time travel ending. But that's a debate that happens a lot, it seems, so let's not get into it.

My vote, though not a whodunit with a surprise ending, goes to The Buried Age - I thought that Ariel's backstory, when finally revealed, was incredibly surprising.

As I said, for me: I read it in very early days, and it was beyond compare to anything I'd read before, ST, SF or otherwise. I found it totally unpredictable, especially Spock's first big failure.

The Buried Age - incredibly surprising.
Definitely! Forgot that one.

Yeah, the Vanguard books have probably had the most "holy shit!" moments of any of the Trek books I've read.

Especially the way that last one ended. That's how you know it's a great book when the writer leaves you wanting more.

Serpents Among the Ruins, definitely. Man, by the end, I was so surprised... floored, actually.

And definitely the Vanguard novels as well. Please to be letting us buy it now!
