Going through Hell

You and your partner have just died, you enter Heaven to find that they are not there. You go to the information desk and the angel there tells you your partner went to hell and will be spending eternity there.
You speak with God and he tells you your partner can be allowed entry into Heaven but you've got to literally leave heaven and battle your way through hell to get them and then fight your way back out in order for it to be allowed. If you are captured however you yourself will also spend eternity in hell.

So the ultimate question is:

Do you leave Heaven and go through hell and fight your way in and out to rescue your partner/lover?

Like in What Dreams May Come or something?

I would, eternity would be pointless alone.

Although I don't really believe in an afterlife.

depends on how you perceive Heaven, I guess. If Heaven is kinda like how the Nexus from GEN was shown, how would you even know they were missing?

If it's more like a hotel, and just people hanging out, doesn't sound much like heaven. A 1-size-fits-all heaven wouldn't qualify for the name...

Now you're all just bloody nitpicking.

Would you or would you not fight your way through hell using just a sword, armour and a shield to save your partner/lover?

not at all, that answers your question. MY perception of Heaven wouldn't be the type where I'd have to go rescue anyone. Like i said, less of a "What dreams may come" remake, and more like the Nexus from GEN.

Why are they in hell? Presumably it's for something I didn't know they did, whether before we met or during our time together? Perhaps they weren't the person I thought they were?

What? Seems like valid questions.

I'd also question the worthiness of any god that forced this decision on me, or the level of offense that forced my other half into hell in the first place.

Seems like you'd have better luck arguing about love and understanding with God than trying to rescue someone from hell using a sword! How does a shield save you from the fires of Hell, anyway?

Just saying I'd chose another path, if forced.

^ OMG FFS!
I'm not going through the hell of this thread.

Whereever my husband is, that will be heaven. Whereever my husband isn't, that place is hell.

Sure I would, it sounds like fun actually. And if there is a hell, my partner is likely going there.

one more bit to add: if this sword you're getting is so powerful that it can be a threat to the Devil himself, why not take it and hold it up to God's throat, and demand your partner back? Quicker than the Hell route, especially if you're inclined to use the deity-killing sword...
