Godzilla 2014 version.

Mage

Vice Admiral
Admiral
I've been curious about this movie for a while, but I've been reading some comments about people compaining about the bluray transfer, and that the movie is incredibly dark, literally. As in, most of the scenes with the monsters are hardly watchable, because you mostly see a black screen.

Is that hyperbole, or actual fact?

All I know is that the monsters are perfectly visible in the novelization. :)

(Haven't watched it on Blu-Ray, but I don't remember the movie being too dark in the theaters.)

I've only seen the DVD version, and they're visible enough on that. Maybe the HD transfer was altered in some way.

I know a lot of it was at night so it was fairly dark, but I was able to see everything OK when I saw it in theaters.

I've seen it on the big screen, the little screen and my computer screen and the monsters were always perfectly visible. The biggest monster problem is that it takes a year and a day for big G to show up.

Hm, might actually buy the dvd instead of the bluray. I've heard this problem mostly about the bluray's HD transfer.

I didn't think the Blu was too dark (Region 2, and not 3d).

Sure, with it being night there are dark scenes, but I thought it was ok.

I won't say too dark (seems to be up to the individual) but it is pretty damn dark in some sequences.

This is potentially enlightening (Ha!) too...
