Go see "Moon"!

Looked for a thread but didn't see one. GI Joe's 52 mil proves there is no justice as "Moon", a wonderful film, lopes across the theatrical landscape. If it's playing near you, be sure to see it. It's rare to see a film like this in theaters anymore.

The fact that this movie is only playing on like only... what... 4 screens, doesn't help. Morons!

I really want to see this movie. I'll have to wait for one of the 2 dvd's that will be made and passed around the country...

I really wanted to see this as well, but I sadly never got the chance to while I was visiting friends in Charlottesville, VA.

It played in my area for all of three weeks at one theater.

Shit, Rob Schneider movies have lasted longer in theaters.

Hubby and I had to make a special trip to downtown (about an hour away) just to see it. We both enjoyed it quite a bit. Yes, they probably could've cut about 15 minutes from the film, but the performance by Sam Rockwell was just brilliant.

I definitely recommend it.

Oh, great... go ahead, now make me feel guilty for not seeing "Moon" as well as annoyed for having to sit through "GI Joe"!

The sad truth is that I would have far rather seen "Moon" but my wife and I rarely can squeeze the time and money to see a movie that just the two of us want to see. "GI Joe," on the other hand, was what our 14-year old wanted to do for his birthday, so we all trooped down to the local multiplex and coughed up inordinate amounts of money for lousy popcorn and a worse movie. He liked it, though, which just goes to show that the producers know their audience.

It's an art house film. That's how art house films are distributed. It doesn't make sense to strike thousands of expensive 35mm prints when less than a hundred that slowly make their way across the country building word of mouth and not overextending the film's reach will do much better.

Yep, that's how they distributed most films in the "old days". Seriously though, it's a great movie that's a throwback to 70's sci-fi. Well worth the cost of admission.

Fantastic film. Definitely worth the effort to see. Sam Rockwell is just amazing in it.

I fully agree. My partner and I both enjoyed it, the story is pretty good too.

Agreed. This is not a movie you go see for the FX work. While the FX work isn't bad, it struck me as a throwback to Space 1999 and UFO, the early 1970s-era model work instead of the CGI pablum we get today. So, if you're only into science fiction films for the shiny, this is probably not going to work for you.

I would love to see Moon. Multiple times, if it is as good as I've heard.

BUT IT ISN'T PLAYING ON A SCREEN WITHIN 200 MILES!!!! :shifty: :shifty: :shifty:

Idiots. (at the distribution) What's the &*^&*^&* point. Just make it a DVD release if that is all the effort they are going to exhaust to show the film outside major metropolitan areas.

No, there certainly isn't a whole lot of spectacle to keep one's attention (though I love the production design). It's a film that lives or dies by the writing and acting. Fortunately both are great.

Back in the day you would have theaters that showed only small films. But as the Hollywood paradigm shifted to accommodate blockbusters that needed to make over half their take in three weeks, those venues died as multiplexes burgeoned.

I didn't think it needed a cut at all. Rockwell once again proves he's an underutilized talent. If District 9 is as good as I hope, what a week at the movies. And for me, seeing two movies in a week is a rarity, much less two good movies.

Like I said. Art house film, independent production, striking lots of 35mm prints is really expensive. It'll be released on DVD, and will make its way to your area eventually, if there's an appropriate venue (don't look for it at the megaplex). It only just arrived in Olympia last week (and it only played for only one week).

And if they release it on DVD first, I don't think they can have the kind of buzz for awards they've been getting on this one, especially for Rockwell's performance.

Whether or not that can get past the traditional ignorance of science fiction films by the awards committees remains to be seen, but he really deserves it, IMNSHO.

I have to go 30 miles to see it if i want to in some artsy theater, however it's $2 cheaper than the mega movies, so that's something.

Jesus, people, calm down. It's a good movie, but it's not a great one. As discussed in other topics on this board, there are fundamental flaws in the premise and huge plot holes which, in my opinion, keep this one from attaining greatness. I really don't think anyone will be talking about Moon a year from now. I liked the movie, but it's not worth driving for hours to see it. Just wait for the DVD. It's not like it has huge sweeping visuals that demand to be seen on a big screen.
