Glad I dont live in france!

France is the only state in Europe to have such a ban.

For one thing, I don't think France should just out right ban it, what about peoples rights. If people choose to wear a burka, they should have that right IMO.

France has a peculiar position on display of religious symbols. Sometimes I agree with them, sometimes I do not. Personally I'm more about including as many symbols as possible (this is also a way to "desensitize" people to them) instead of banning them outright (which may cause resentments), but it's their country.

A lot of women who are wearing the burka don't choose it.

b) all other food is expensive

 I should start to collect all my grocery and restaurant bills just to prove you wrong.

c) The average French buy a fresh baguette every day.

Where's B?...And you're only one person! What about a family.

And what the hell is a baguette? And what's an average French person? and what other expenditures do they have?

Isn't Jean Reno like huge in France? That alone makes them pretty cool people IMO
He's well known of course.

;)

Or just keep breeding until they become the majority, which, combined with immigration, probably will happen. Then bye-bye progressive secular laws.

And it's not what is happening. The 2nd and 3rd generations are a lot more secular than the 1st generation and they have 2.5 children like everyone ;)

2.5 children? Are you sawing them in half Carrie?

Eh, France love them, hate them, just leave them the hell alone. Or your ears will bleed.

And what the hell is a baguette?

The ultimate expression of the art of Bread Making.

Deep-fried Brat in Wine Sauce goes good with baguette.

France is a nuclear armed country with it's own mid-east oil-independent economy (hello nuclear power plants HELLO independently developed petrol reserves!) and their own ideas on how things should be.

All in all they do a fairly good job of running things, and they haven't picked a hopeless fight overseas or gotten invaded by a technically superior force in very long time now.

America would do well to emulate them.

America, emulate France? lol

I needed the laugh today.

By that I mean developing alternatives to mid-east oil and not picking wars it can't win.

The baguettes, silly hats and canned snails they can keep. :techman:

Fresh snails however, are divine.

The French understand and revere Jerry Lewis, which is something America still puzzles over.

I have a friend who told me how MILLIONS of French were homeless and unemployed thanks to the American Sanctions that were passed in the wake of France speaking out against America's invasion of Iraq.

See, all these American Companies that were propping up the French Economy and importing BILLIONS of dollars worth of goods and BILLIONS in services pulled out of France leaving economic collapse and chaos in their wake. France was on the verge of economic ruin because with out America to trade with they had no source of income.

...of course he couldn't find any proof but he remembers being told this by someone possibly on the radio.

France-bashing comes from ignorant patriotic pride and an inability to do independent research. It's the people who seek pre-digested political opinions rather than think for themselves that make most of the noise.

One thing that is interesting to ponder, had Japan staged an invasion of the mainland in '39-41 American history would have been vastly different. Had Germany come rolling over our borders (Canada or Mexico) we would be sitting here praising Hitler rather than debating the merits of France as a sovereign nation. Being defeated by an overwhelming military force... that's France's biggest "shame." Something America has yet to face, something most Americans have no comprehension of.

We saw France get whipped in Indochina, yet we sent troops thinking we could do better. We did do better, our casualty counts were MUCH higher!

What I'm saying here is think for yourself, turn off the ignorant bashing for a moment please.

My mistake then. Thank you for correcting my misconception. Seriously. :)

No problem :)

This is just hilarious !
If he knew what we thought of those "sanctions"
What santions BTW ?

Oh...Woody Allen then?

Ok, I can't deny this one.

And is Carrie talking to herself again? Uh -oh
Yes, I enjoy my own conversation a lot.

I agree, but only up until a certain point.

A burka is unfriendly, secretive and unhygienic (especially in hot weather). You don't get to walk in a Balaclava all day, why should the Burka be any different? People shouldn't be allowed to wear a Burka when they do work that needs them to interact with other people -- you can't trust someone you can't see. And don't get me started on wearing them in the swimming pool -- there are those who actually do that; how unhygienic is that?! People with infective skin disease are refused entrance -- and rightly so. But if you wear a Burka, nobody would know and you'd be allowed entrance, right up until the moment you've infected everybody in the whole damn pool.

Seriously? Man... I've heard that one before, but always took it as a joke. There was a point in time when Jerry Lewis was adored by the French. But that was during his hey-day. Later, when he fell out of favor in the US, it didn't take all that long for Europe (and France) to follow suit. But maybe the records of adoration stuck and persisted the myth?
