Give me a wiener

I wonder if they celebrate Memorial Day in TREK's future. Are there picnics and large celebrations? Does the government shut down for a day?? What do you imagine a Memorial-Day celebration looking like in either TOS or TNG era's of TREK?

Why would an interplanetary governing body celebrate a holiday commemorating the civil war, or at best the casualties of all the wars, of only one nation state on only one planet, based on a calendar important to only one of its member species?

The UFP probably celebrates May Day before Memorial Day. And Surak's Birthday. And perhaps V-C Day, but I doubt they celebrate that any more than we celebrate August 6th.

Well..yeah I see your point. I didn't mean the actuall 'memorial day' holiday...but perhaps another day set aside for those who were lost in the various battles through-out the illustrious history of the Federation...

^I bet Surak's Birthday celebrations suck, though. They probably make you take a test just to get into the picnic.;)

I guess if they did have a holiday, Starfleet doesn't get the day off. Most everybody else has the day off anyway, due to the automatic economy.:p

I also didn't mean my first post to come off as snarky as it did.

I would imagine that they would still have some sort of holiday to honor and remember their fallen heroes. The Dominion War alone killed thousands--if not tens of thousands--of Starfleet personnel.

We know from Starship Down in Deep Space Nine that they still have hot dogs in the 24th century. But I can't help but wonder what would the hot dogs be made of in that era. A tasty meat substitute? :wtf:

We also know from The Cage that they still have picnics in the 23th century.

We also know, from the last Voyager episode, that they have fireworks, as well. So, whatever memorial holiday they celebrate to honor their fallen heroes, it can't be too different from the way we do it now.

Just throwing my two cents out there.

Great post...I'm trying to think which TOS character would sound the most natural even saying "Give me a wiener"..the vocabulary is so "now"..you know what i mean?

Rob

In TOS, they'd give you a blue trapezoidal prism and call it a hot dog - and it would taste just like one, but dang that's funky. Oh, and they'd serve it with real beer: Budweiser Classic.

In TNG, they'd give you an awesome replicated hot dog replicated with a bun of the finest, freshest bread and a extremely tasty, fully kosher weiner - and whatever toppings you want, all extremely fresh and tasty, too. BUT - the beer would be synthehol.

Take your pick.

I'm guessing that many people from earth and the former U.S. celebrate memorial day, but I don't think that it's a thing that the entire fed celebrates. But I could see after the dominion war Memorial day being revived as part of the UFP.

Yep. Memorial Day will survive after Christmas and Easter are forgotten due to everyone being atheist. :D

Halloween would be more fun than ever. People can dress up as their favorite aliens. :bolian:

That's not true. As much as everyone wants to forget The Final Frontier, searching for God is not a trade of atheists.

Christmas and Easter, however, would definitely have been forgotten since there is no more money in the future...
