Girls, I need help with girly stuff...

so Im starting to worry about my skin. Im not into makeup & I dont really put anythng on my skin. I do use Aveeno Clear Complexion Foaming Cleanser for my breakouts when I shower(but it doesnt seem to have much effect.) Also I have really bad raccoon eyes. So Im just wondering what do you all recommend as a simple skin mosturizer & eye concealer? I have no idea where to begin. There's so many products out there & Im sure most of them are useless.

Everything depends on your personal skin type, but there's this Olay face moisturizer that I just love. Take a look when you're at the drugstore the next time and see if any of them look good to you. It doesn't feel oily or anything, and I just use it once a day.

As far as cleansers go, I've given up on all of them and have taken to just using a bar of Dove soap. It's been a refreshing change from all the expensive stuff out there, and it does the job quite well. I don't know anything about concealer though--sorry!

I use L'Occitane olive oil daily radiance cream when I have it on hand or remember to order it, and Burts Bees radiance night cream when I'm out of that. But I destroyed my skin's oil glands with Accutane years ago, so I have pretty dry skin now. If you still break out, I recommend something a little lighter. Before Accutane changed my life for the better, I used to use Oil of Olay oil free moisture cream and that worked pretty well, but it was hard to find.

ETA Oh, and I use those Olay daily facials wet wipes to wash my face because I'm lazy and hate splashing water on my face, getting it all over my arms and on the counter and having to wipe up ... $6 a month is worth it to me to avoid all that.

The raccoon eyes can be from a variety of problems---stemming from lack of sleep, vitamin deficiency, allergies, sinus problems, smoking, and simple aging & genetics.

Try Almay's Bright Eyes concealer, and blend it in with your foundation. It's pretty cheap--about 7 bucks, I think,--and you can find it at your grocery store or drug store.

^ugh, I really want to avoid foundation. I hate how having that stuff on my face feels & how it looks. My sis(who also has raccoon eyes) told me she just uses a moisturizer and a bit of concelaer but she's just as clueless as I am.

Kestra, I use Dove bar soap too but I dont use it on my face as I heard soap can wreck your skin(dry out.)

I have no clue about my skin type, is there some way (test?) to find out? all I know is that Im in my mid 30's & still have bad break outs! I assume half of that is due to my diet( I eat a lot of chocolate & other fatty stuff.) My aunt told me to stay away from creams that are too moist but I dont want to dry out my skin either. I guess Ill have to try different things then & see what works(ugh).

thanks for the suggestons all, now I have an idea of where to start as far as brands go(there's so many!)

I'm a boy, but my face tends to get really dry and blemishy. I started using one of those skin lotions with the self-tanning stuff in them, and I found it really helps keep my skin moisturized, and it evens out the tone.

Every time I hear something about Dove soap, I remember the movie Fight Club and how they make soap. I've actually thought about making my own soap off of the fat I trim off of steaks.

Biore has a warming deep pore cleanser that I've been using for years. I use it after I shave and it makes my skin awesome and stuff. Fixes oily patches and dry patches all at once. I think it uses black magic.

Dove Energy Glow

That's the stuff I use, though I am now intrigued by this Biore warming cleanser thingy that makes skin awesome and stuff.

I did one of the most metrosexual things I've ever done the other day and bought a tanning package. In the winter especially my skin gets dry and breaks out so much from lack of sun exposure. I spent even less time outside this summer than I normally do, so my skin is already freaking out.

See, I don't consider that "metro" I have psoriasis, so I always go tanning in the winter months to keep my skin in good shape.

There was only one girl at the time. She was nice enough, but she seemed kinda skanky.

Well, your tattoo is in a similar spot to mine and I can't reach it, and I won't go in the booth without it sunblocked, I don't want to ruin it.

That, and it gives me a good excuse!

Fair enough. I can reach mine okay enough. I need to get it touched up anyway; it faded remarkably fast.

Too much use of soaps/detergents can strip the skin of goodness. You could try using them less frequently, and just try using plain water.

Glycerine (of vegetable origin) is one of the best things for skin, but it must be used well diluted because it is readily absorbed into the skin and it doesn't wash out. Too much will make the skin unnaturally glossy, and will feel like burning.

Vitamin c is also good for skin. I make my own cream out of cheap moisturiser, pulverised vitamin c tablets, glycerine, and orange oil for fragrance. This works fine for me. The snakes like it to :)
