News Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire anticipation thread

There is a whole portion of the audience, for example, who sees that final shot of the trailer and says, "How do they NOT have him say, 'He slimed me'?! It's right there!'"

And that's who the marketing is trying to keep happy, mostly trying to avoid another 2016.

I actually got a bigger kick from Trevor's understated, disgusted "... Yeah." :guffaw: Yeah, I know, it happened, you saw it, I know what I'm supposed to say here, I'm not saying it.

That looks like a lot of fun.
Yeah, it does have some more nostalgia stuff, but it looks like the majority of it will be brand new stuff. With a franchise like this, there's always going to some callbacks to the originals, but from the trailer it doesn't look like they're over doing it.
Yeah, this trailer did focus on the nostalgia, but a lot of that was down to how this trailer was put together, and that won't necessarily reflect how things are in the final movie.

I liked the trailer a good deal. I am 100% supportive of the nostalgia stuff in these movies, so I really enjoyed seeing all of that in the trailer. I wish that they stopped trying to make those mini stay puffs a thing, they didn't seem to catch on in the last movie and I doubt that they'll be any more entertaining in the sequel. Still, overall the movie is looking good.

I thought Afterlife was largely rancid, and this seems even more packed with memberberries bullshit.

I'll wait for it to hit a streaming service.

And you know it's the international trailer, because it has way more James Acaster in it.

But, seriously, this is probably the right trailer for the I-don't-want-pure-nostalgia crowd.

I loved the first trailer but this one is far better (aside from the absence of Dickless) because it provides a better sense of the plot and the state of the Ghostbusting business, while not relying so much on the nostalgia. Didn't think it was possible but I'm even more excited for this film. :D

i am thinking the US trailer has pretty much all the major nostalgia in the movie, but as a whole will feel newer...taking it to the next level, so that by the 3rd one, it will be pretty much on its own.

I am looking forward to it...and just realized it is coming out the birthday weekend of my oldest

Does it have nostalgia bait? Yes.

Do I care? Nope.

Why? Because it's not just nostalgia.

Afterlife did an excellent job of balancing the nostalgia and creating new characters telling their own stories. Even though Jason Reitman didn't direct his time, he was still one of the writers and I trust him to maintain the same balance for Frozen Empire.

I'm kind of more mixed, in that I enjoyed Afterlife a lot but I also agree with some of the complaints that elements of it relied way too much on nostalgia (to the point where Afterlife literally copies certain scenes from the 1984 film, not merely doing an affectionate nod to them). But I'm keeping an open mind, as I hope they do achieve a better balance on the storytelling for Frozen Empire. :)

"So that happened" needs to die. Along with "a what-now?" and all of those other generic filler statements that seem to stand in for actual dialogue or a unique funny line.

But I am sure you agree it's still okay to use "Oh no you didn't" "Well Well Well" and "Not on my watch."

My 2 year old loves mini-puffs, he thinks they are the cutest thing ever. I even made a bunch of Styrofoam mini-puffs to give away as mardi gras throws in Chewbacchus this year. they were very popular.

Fair enough. I never really saw them anywhere and assumed that they'd just been kind of a flop. I don't particularly care for them, but its not like they ruined the movie or anything, even if they are just a blatant attempt at giving the franchise its own "minions".

It's one of those things where the intent behind it seems obvious (the hope to make a bajillion toys), but it never comes to fruition. It reminds me of when I saw Attack of the Clones with a friend, who complained that the droid factory scene was clearly a ploy to tie into a future video game, and then it never happened. Maybe it was something George had in mind when conceiving it, but LucasFilm never took those particular reins.

It also felt like the Muncher ghost was an attempt at a Slimer 2.0, but they never really did anything with that, either.

Of course, if the public had latched onto him or the Stay Pufts, Grogu-style, of course they would be everywhere.

It wasn't. In the original script/edit, Anakin and Padme are captured straightaway by Jango and Dooku, while Threepio and Artoo stay on Padme's ship for the rest of the movie. George and co-writer Jonathan Hales saw an opening to add an action sequence to a film badly in need of more action, and to get the droids involved in some friendship-building hi-jinks for the third act.
