Ghostbusters 2016: Talk about the movie(s).

Diega Bond.

I think that would be cool.

I think this also made me think of something, though. We are used to the actor playing James Bond being replaced, now. What was the amount of complaining back then, without internet to amplify it of course, when Sean Connery quit and they started Bond with other actors. Roger Moore was James Bond when I first noticed the character, but I don't know how many times,(very many) that I heard about him not being as good as Connery. (I'm actually a bit neutral on that one, I like Moore, but I liked Connery, too. I even like Dalton but I didn't think his movies were as good, I was disappointed by the other guys that I've seen).
But now he's been replaced so much, it's just another actor.
Maybe a lot of this Ghostbusters claptrap is just that people we are used to, even in video game and cartoon form, were more or less the same and now they aren't in the new movie.

I love those movies, I know I'm in a minority there.

There were going to be two movies, David (the new male lead) would have gotten the actual Underworld 5 with Kate coming back a few months later for a connected UW "5.5" but they just put both films together, hence it not meeting the usual January 20th 3 year release cycle.

It has a pretty dedicated fanbase, and they have ideas for another couple of movies, I'll see them half a dozen times each before seeing this reboot though....

Didn't know there was another one on the way, glad to hear it. I don't know if they qualify as guilty pleasures, I don't consider them to be particulary good movies but damn, they are lot of fun!

There are, and I love them for it.

For some reason they're being really tight lipped over the title. All of the scripts and onset material say "UWV or Underworld V" and anyone working on the outdoor sets had to have 'UW5' stamped on their hands like a nightclub thing. The Next Generation title is a fan guess from 2012-4.

But the plot involves the Nordic coven, which is teased to have a female Elder. She'll be the 2nd of the Minor 23 we'll have met. Amelia had so little to do it was ridiculous.

And when did this become more interesting to talk about than the GB movie?

Sorry I am late to this... but I think the culture's tendency of making this so polarized really convoluts things.
There is definitely misogyny among the comments..but I wonder if we magnify the significance (as intense as it may be), and then downplay any legitimate disagreement with it being a reboot.

Personally I think one of the things that have made some reboots successful is that they really honor, and tie into the past... to The Force Awakens and NuTrek are good examples.

Meanwhile, the Garfield Spiderman & Trank FF have been panned...because it seems like the reason for their eistanceis simply to make money off of a license.

With the new Ghostbusters, my 11 year old daughter is much more excited to see it than I am... one of my other issues (other than lack of tie-in) is Leslie Jones -- she's playing the same character she just about always does on SNL...but my daughter hasn't seen her there,so she'll probably think she's hilarious.

I have been a little more open to it than in the past...so we will see how our movie budget is this summer. Star Trek will take priority!

I'm in favor of having a super spy movie with a strong female lead, but why Bond? James Bond is strongly associated with dominating male sexuality.

I say make a Bond-like movie with a female lead.

Halle Berry was rumored to have a 'Jinx' movie in development which was a spin off of the James Bond franchise. Thank god that didn't happen.

"I wanted men to be in it."
From the article:
I see the casting of an all-woman cast as a gimmick, pure and simple
Paul Rudoff, Spook Central
Eh, personally i think it's lazy, going for a 100% gender-flipped version of the original 5 members of the Ghostbusters team...
I would've liked it more if they had followed Extreme Ghostbusters when it came to the gender and race make-up of the group...
Maybe 3 women and 2 men or vice-versa, with some more ethnic diversity?!?
But overall i'll see how the movie is when i see it...

I have no issues with a all-female Ghostbusters. My issues sofar would have the same if it was a all male cast. The humor seems forced, the acting bad, way to many silly gimmicks. And yes, this is all judged from a trailer, so I'll reserve final judgement after seeing the movie, but nothing from the trailers sofar has convinced me this could be a fun movie. Regardles of the gender of the leads.

It looks to me this is Ghostbusters answer to Joel Schumacher's Batman. Lots of sitcomesque overacting and even the tried and tested Hemsworth comes across as playing a parody rather than a person. All that's missing is the canned laughter. When the ladies eye up Hemsworth is that an attempt to respond to Murray sweet talking the lady from the electric shock testing back in the day? I wish they'd just make the damn film without being preoccupied trying to correct the sociological problems of the first films.

I suppose this is just the way movie-comedies are made now. Modify the sitcom model. Genuine comedic talent of the stature of Murray is scarce. As I type I can only think of reuniting the Seinfeld cast! haha.

Pretty much where I stand as well. Hollywood seems to treat women the way blacks were treated decades ago in movies - sure, they can have a comedy with women, but the humor needs to be incredibly lame and demeaning for some reason. Which is fine, I guess, if you enjoy that sort of humor - but it doesn't fit with Ghostbusters
