Ghost Rider 2: Spirit of Vengeance Discussion, Pics etc Till Release

Re: Ghost Rider 2: Spirit of Vengeance Discussion, Pics etc Till Relea

Thanks, I was about to post this earlier. :techman:

The movie will release almost 5yrs to the date of when the first came out.
Sony's Columbia Pictures has set a February 17, 2012 release date for Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, directed by Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor.

The sequel, again starring Nicolas Cage, has started shooting in Bucharest, Romania.

The first film hit theaters on February 16, 2007 and earned $228.7 million worldwide.

It feels like its been longer than that since it came out in '07. Still the fact that it's started shooting catches me by surprise. I thought shooting was slated till October. Even better that means we might get some on set spy photos soon.

Is the rug returning? It's one of my favourites.

He was great in ROME, which is all I know him from but he is good actor. I hope he is given some material that the can really bring to the screen in a memorable way.

Also at SHH, they are reporting that Violante Placido(The American) will have a role as the mother of the child wanted by dark forces.
Ciaran Hinds is in negotiations to play the devil in Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance and actress-singer Violante Placido is also in talks to join the cast.

Heat Vision reports that "the story sees Johnny Blaze, aka Ghost Rider (Nicolas Cage), hiding out in remote Eastern Europe and struggling to repress his curse. Blaze is recruited by a sect to take on the devil (Hinds), who wants to take over his mortal son's body on the boy's birthday.

Placido (The American) will play the boy's mother."

Filming is going to start in a few weeks so there likely may be some additional casting in the coming weeks just prior.

This doesn't sound like a character description from the GR books, not one I'm too familar with anyway.
Elba will play “an alcoholic warrior monk tasked with finding Ghost Rider".
Anyone know if this sounds like a known character? Sounds like the character will likely be the second main lead and once he finds Johnny will be an ad-hoc sidekick.

I think Elba as Luke Cage would be awesome but I love the Blade character and vamps just haven't simmered down in popularity since the first Blade.

Re: Ghost Rider 2: Spirit of Vengeance Discussion, Pics etc Till Relea

^ If they make another Blade movie (and I'd go see it), I don't see any reason (other than jail!) why Snipes can't return. He IS Blade. You only have to look at Sticky Fingaz' version to see how hard it is to replace The Wes.

Re: Ghost Rider 2: Spirit of Vengeance Discussion, Pics etc Till Relea

I concur. I'd rather see Idris as Luke Cage or even Black Panther. Chewetol Eijelfor or however you spell his name would be good too.

The newest bit of gossip casting possibiites is that Christopher Lambert may get a bit part in the sequel.
Lambert has resurfaced via a Highlander facebook page (via Moviehole) to say that he’s currently “in talks to do Ghost Rider 2 with Nicolas Cage”, though no other details were given. Keep in mind, though, that this is second-hand news from someone reporting that this is something Lambert said.
Be curious to see if this pans out and if it does what role he might be talking about getting. Production starts up in just a few more weeks.

I think he's due for a return. Him and Michael Beihn. Oh and Pheobe Cates!

Re: Ghost Rider 2: Spirit of Vengeance Discussion, Pics etc Till Relea

Is there a wood elemental in Ghost Rider's rogues' gallery?

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

They're all due for a return. I wish Michael Beihn had more roles. I always thought he'd be another action star like Bruce Willis, Stallone or Arnold. He's past that point now (they all pretty much are barring Bruce who's just on the edge of "too old") but he still is young enough to pull off something action-y.

Re: Ghost Rider 2: Spirit of Vengeance Discussion, Pics etc Till Relea

Can there be a B Team Expendables movie?

Michael Beihn, Michael Dudikoff, Rutger Hauer, Don The Dragon Wilson to name a few.

Re: Ghost Rider 2: Spirit of Vengeance Discussion, Pics etc Till Relea

There's a big difference still between Michael Biehn and Don "The Dragon" Wilson. :p

A straight-to-DVD Expendables (which wouldn't work because they only have money to afford one lead actor) would probably be...

Scott Adkins, Michael Jai White, Gary Daniels (who happens to be in The Expendables!!!), Mark Dacascos, Don "The Dragon" Wilson, Olivier Gruner, David Bradley, Michael Dudikoff, Billy Blanks, Cynthia Rothrock, Jeff Speakman and Brian Bosworth. :)

Re: Ghost Rider 2: Spirit of Vengeance Discussion, Pics etc Till Relea

Nic Cage says:
[W]e're pretending that our audience hasn't seen the first film.

What do you mean, "pretending"?!? ;)

It did well enough for a sequel? I didn't realize that.
It made $228m worldwide on a $110m budget before DVD sales. Heck it basically just broke over even with its USdom take. It just shows yet again that the notion about the net of "a film has to make 2-3times its budget" to garner sequels and/or be called a "hit" is a myth more times than it works in its favor.

It basically boils down to the studio CEO to say "Go!".. that word will come easy if the projected net profit is indeed in the 2/3x production cost or above margin but if the CEO likes the concept or the producer is a good enough sweet talker he may convince him to support something that will only make a moderate profit (better than no profit).

This is why Serenity actually got made at all.. someone quite high in management liked Firefly and Joiss Whedon and had faith in the production to greenlight it.. it would never knock down Star Wars or come close to it but once in a while Hollywood takes a risk.

Between Serenity, The Chronicles of Riddick, & Dune, I'd say Universal has some of the most sci-fi friendly executives in the business.

I'm not a huge fan of the 1st Ghost Rider. (I much prefered Mark Steven Johnson's work on Daredevil.) However, Nicolas Cage took a fairly anemic movie and made it much more interesting with his quirky performance. I'll see the sequel at some point.

It's a shame that they're not bringing back Peter Fonda. I was quite fond of hissing out, "Peter Fonda is the devil!" at every opportunity.

^ If they make another Blade movie (and I'd go see it), I don't see any reason (other than jail!) why Snipes can't return.

Couldn't they work out a work furlough program?

Re: Ghost Rider 2: Spirit of Vengeance Discussion, Pics etc Till Relea

I'm hoping if they do a Blade movie they do so with a new actor and reboot the franchise. Snipes did well enough in the movies but each one he seemed to get progressively worse. I didn't like how he started to portray the character.

It's one of those times I actually want them to start over. I don't think they need to go in a totally new direction or anything but go with someone who seems less self-important I guess?

Ghost Rider with Nick Cage though is fine with me. He did take what would've been a mediocre movie and made it more entertaining. Obviously a lot of people found it just mediocre or worse but I liked it and want to see what else Cage can do with the role.

Re: Ghost Rider 2: Spirit of Vengeance Discussion, Pics etc Till Relea

Idris Elba's indicated an interest in playing Blade for a reboot...

Re: Ghost Rider 2: Spirit of Vengeance Discussion, Pics etc Till Relea

I wanted to like the first one so much, I think it skewed my view of how bad it actually was.

Lets hope they get this one right. :techman:

Re: Ghost Rider 2: Spirit of Vengeance Discussion, Pics etc Till Relea

If only they fused Constantine and Ghost Rider together, would have made for a better movie. Keanu Reeves, as robotic as he can be, I think would have been better than Cage.
